Yesterday was the final Presidential Candidate debate, and Soup Plantation sent out coupons for a 2 for 1 deal. I’m not a huge fan of Soup Plantation, but being that it was 90 degrees, a salad sounded ideal. I guess the citizens of Fullerton thought it was a good idea, as they all flocked to the same restaurant. At that point, a BOGO was not enough for Karen or me to eat there, and we chose Plan B.Across the street was Dickey’s Barbecue. I have only been there once before, when it first opened, and remembered it being a reasonable place. Karen was open to trying it, so we walked inside, and the place was fairly empty. They had a $7.50 sandwich special: pulled pork with a cole slaw and a drink. I was about to get it when I saw the employee slicing a brisket that just came out of the smoker. Oh my it looked good. The girl said we could get a sandwich or order the meat by the 1/2 pound. I chose to get the 1/2 pound and split that, along with 2 sides (mac n cheese and the baked beans) with Karen. It was more than enough food and it only set us back $17. There’s warm barbecue sauce in the condiment area, and you can get regular or spicy sauce. Both had a kick to it.For dining in, Dickey’s offers free soft serve ice cream to their customers. I ended the night with a small cone, and almost made a root beer float out of it, too. Almost. Thumbs up to this barbecue place. It’s not my favorite, but it came in handy when we needed a place to eat. callmemochelle.com
