Nothing fancy, just great fish. We have been eating here for over 25 years. If it was not great you would not still have 20 people waiting in line EVERY night before the doors open to put their name on the list. If youu go on Fri or Sat at 6 you will have a 2-3 hr wait for the sushi bar. Service can be questionable (think Seinfeld soup Nazi) but the fish is the best. If you like foo foo sushi, rolls and such try somewhere else. They go through more fish in a night in their restaurant than most Sushi bars serve in the whole resteraunt in two nights. You will see them pull out a new Hamachi (guaranteed the best anywhere) every hour or so. The chefs have been there FOREVR. The master Suzuki is fairly set in his ways and tends to want to make things his way. If you give him leeway he will set you up. Ask him what he recommends and pick a few, tell him if you want sushi or sahimi and let him go. Ono is the older chef and he has a number of special things he makes that are not on the menu. He has a cooked spicy seafood special that will blow your mind. Akio is a riot and probably our favorite chef. If you are a newcomer to this place and you have a chance to pick where you sit I would go with him. The pieces of fish they cut are enormous. All the basics are great; Hamachi (regular or belly if you ask), Tuna, Toro, Spicy Tuna, Salmon, Uni, fresh scallop, sweet shrimp, Hokigai (red clam). They will make most any roll that you can describe once you get to know them, but Akio is by far the most easygoing to special requests. Try the seafood teapot soup and the spinach (made daily with a sesame nutty sauce). End with the fresh (not the one you probably see in the case) Tamago that Ono makes and you will leave happy. To beat the line you can go 20 min before they open and put your name on the list and you can see how many people in front of you and they will tell you when to come back. You can then go home or do an errand and come back close to your seating time. Just do not be late, remember what I said about the Seinfeld episode of the soup Nazi!
Once again outstanding!! We had a party of 4 at the sushi bar for my wife’s birthday and Ono (sushi chef) was as always fabuless. Fresh, tasty and large portions. I have been going to Taiko since 1987 without a disappointment yet.
Long lines usually mean good food. Not the best Japanese restaurant, but definitely above average. Not the freshest fish, but very thick slices when it comes to sushi/sashimi. Generous portions, good food,… again, not the best… but you won’t be disappointed. The only downside on this place is the wait. Always a wait, unless you go very early. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Get here early for lunch. People are lining up outside before the doors even open. I love their combo lunch plates, you can’t really go wrong with any of them. Portions are huge, so be careful how much you order. Sashimi is really fresh.
OH MY GOSH. Probably the best japanese restaurant in the worldthe food is reallyy fresh!the line is REALLY long… they lie about the wait though.they have very slow reactions.. and they seam to be deaf (just kidding)they just serve slowly!on other days, they’re fast.
Authentic, delicious. Get there early; there’s almost always a long line!everything about this restaurant is just so, so good. really.
Great sushi. Well-known high quality Japanese restaurant with top grade sushi. At lunch you better arrive well before the doors open or it will be over an hour before your seated.
