Horrible Father’s Day Dinner. First, you should know this is more a bar than a restaurant. We went for Father’s Day dinner. It’s an amazing view of Lake Tahoe. That’s the only thing going for it. My husband ordered the crab special and French onion soup, I ordered a salad and clam chowder. We received bread after about a half hour after we placed our order. Being the first reservation of the evening, placing our order just before 5 you would think we would receive dinner quicker than those seated 1/2 hour after us. Nope! We waited. At an hour the server finally came over and told us that the kitchen was very backed up. Then our dinners arrived. French onion soup never arrived. Even after asking 2 servers three different times! Then the crab special that was $40 only had total of 4 small crab legs!!!! My clam chowder was served with my dinner and stone cold. You could not pay me enough to eat at this rip off joint again!!!!!
What about the clam chowder?. The building is nice, the lake view amazing…But the food? We were not successful with our orders. My clam chowder was not so good, and my daughters was not lucky with her fries , as well. Maybe it was not a good day for the cooks.
Service was solid when the server was there. After experiencing the clam chowder at many locations around California I would say the chowder here was average. Prices were a bit steep but the drink specials were good. Great view but pricy average food.
Very happy at The Beacon. Heard from a local that this restaurant was a must see. It is. It is right on the blue waters of Lake Tahoe. My wife had the house special Rum Runner, then had another one. I told Chris, the bartender, to surprise me with something warm and he mixed up some sort of Chocolate Vodka – Tuaca Coffee drink that was just the ticket along with some interesting Beer samples. We both had a hot cup of the Clam Chowder; hot, thick, creamy, lots of clams. My wife had the Fish Tacos; Mahi-Mahi with a slight kick in the salsa. I had the Cuban Sandwich. We did not leave anything on the plate. Both selections were great. I agree that the Beacon Bar & Grill is a must see visit for travelers to Lake Tahoe.
Great waiter and beer was good but horrible food. Greasy fish and chips that had lots of bits iof bacon from fryer mixed in the chips. Fish was so coated in batter couldn’t tell where fish was. Friend had steak tacos that were just ok and very greasy. Kind of pricey but guess you have to pay for the beautiful outside view of lake.
Excellent food. Had the chicken Tuscany sando, very tasty! Wife had the blt. She said its the best blt she has ever had, and trust me, she’s had a lot. Servie by Merrick was top notch! Only issue with this spot is the yellow jackets on the outside deck. They really need to get that under control.
