Bulgogi Tacos (dish review). No, the Bulgogi out front of tacos was not a typo in the title. For any of you new to the awe-inspiring gourmet food truck revolution, things like this are not terribly unusual. Trucks, including almost every Korean one, offers specialty tacos. This taco is improperly prepared, though, in terms of proportions. The lettuce probably outweighs the meat inside the tortilla, something inexcusable for any establishment not vegetarian in culinary orientation. The glaze on the meat is pretty perfect, but the sour cream on top of the taco tones it down a little bit too much. For this dish, I really would like to have the beautiful marinated beef be more of a centerpiece, not a side.01 Feb, 2012Seoul on Wheels (Korean). Meet one of the first few restaurants to fall victim to my new, harsher grading process. A few weeks ago, this might have received a like and a 6.6, but not today. I no longer let mediocrity get likes without a fight. Seoul on Wheels is a second-tier truck in the hierarchy of the gourmet food truck world. While it soars ahead of your average taco truck, this Korean-themed four wheeler cannot compete with the big boys on the streets. With a deep need for a coat of paint and a wait time double that of many-a-truck, Seoul struggles to keep up with demand. What results is an apparent lack of quality, with unnecessary amounts of lettuce, sauce and tortilla overwhelming the delicious meat in their tacos. That said, friendly staff and excellent pricing go a long way towards making your wait seem worth it. It is a truck experience for sure, but not always for the right reasons. Delicious and affordable. Wow, amazing Korean BBQ tacos. And a STEAL at $2.50 a piece. You’ll want 2 or 3 for sure. This truck is often parked at Hollis & 65th, but I think they also have different locations. Check out their website/twitter for daily locations. The owner is super friendly, and they even make a yummy cheeseburger, too! It’s right in my work neighborhood, but it’s worth a trip even if you don’t work in the area.
