Food, Good – Service? Getting Better.. There is something to be said about something of sentimental value as my wife and I had our very first date at Yamato.I don’t remember much about the food because I was so blinded by my stunning date that I barely even paid attention to the food or the establishment itself. Many dinner dates and almost 6 years later, my wife and I still manage to gravitate back to Yamato for a dinner-date night out – even if only for sentimental reasons. Why do I say that? Well, because Yamato has undergone a slew of changes since our first date, and none of them have managed to raise it up from our initial expectations.Do not get me wrong – the food is very good. The fish is fresh and served up to you fairly quickly. Additionally, the sushi bar offers daily specials and is very receptive to special orders and even fits of inventive genius (within reason, of course)So, why the long face on this review? Well, it has to do with a little something called service. Unfortunately, Yamato has been plagued by some really poor service – few servers, extended waits and many frustrating ordeals later almost forced me and my wife to the point of abandoning Yamato altogether! But something happened – management of the establishment changed and a spark of hope ignited within my wife and I so we decided to head back to Yamato to see if the change had done them good and much to our surprise – it sort of did.Okay, so Yamato will probably continue to struggle to get their customer service corrected, but the great food keeps my wife and I going back time and time again. The service has gotten better and we hope that it will be perfected…someday. Until then, Yamato remains our guilty pleasure with sentimental value, good sushi and good memories!
