  • Well it's not horrible. Just seems that the meat is rather wet and not too smoky. In fact the brisket probably didn't see smoke. Potato salad was real…

Worst BBQ Brisket Ever. I was drawn to Mike’s by the smoke odor outside that is really wonderful. Since BBQ brisket is the best indicator of a BBQ restaurant’s quality, that’s what I ordered on a ciabatta roll. It was prepared quickly and the server asked if I wanted sweet or spicy sauce and I requested spicy. The brisket was wrapped in a little foil packet and when I opened it, I found a couple chunks of stringy, gray, flavorless meat. NO SMOKE odor or taste at all. Perhaps the smoke odor is just that, odor. This meat had not been cooked in a smoker. No rub, no sauce. It should have been much firmer and sliced. I put it on the roll and added the sauce which was anything but spicey. The sandwich was the worst representation of BBQ brisket I’ve ever had. A total disappointment not worth the $10 I paid, not even half that. I’d guess the brisket was cooked like a pot roast, what a waste. The fries were o.k. If you like real BBQ, stay away.

Don’t Bother. My first experience was that I bought take out for a party. I paid well over $150 and when I got home I found that what they had given me was not what I ordered. It was much less food. I called and they were rude and offered nothing….not even an apology. I was embarrassed as I did not have enough food to feed four guests and my wife and I ended up not eating.I was there several other times and it was good. My last visit will be my last visit as we ordered two chicken salads as well as several other meals for a party of six. The two chicken salads were great (really good) and then came the bill. They added a $3.00 per salad charge for chicken! The menu calls them chicken salads and they were around $10 and yet they charge $3.00 extra for chicken!I asked the manager and he said that it was a mistake by the waitress. I asked to have the bill corrected and he said no that he was not authorized to do so. These people have good food, marginal service and an attitude that will never work in the long run. I suspect that once again, that space will be available soon.People do not like being treated the way they treat people. Again, good food, nice atmosphere, marginal service and no business ethics. I have read other posts, which I do agree with and they even said that the owner contacted them. I would love to have the owner contact me! I tried to call and all I ever get is an answering machine!

Excellent Beer Selection. Very impressive craft beer selection, friendly staff and good BBQ with homemade side dishes. This independent place is a nice find in a world of chains and fast food joints.

Poor service. Be a local escondido resident i want them to make it but i have pretty much given up on them. i did a call in food to go order, when i arrived they said i had to get in a line with over 13 peopleahead of me and only one cashier open. i said no and walked out. previously i had other expierences and im done.

Brisket is Tough & Owner’s a Jerk. I’ve been here once and that was enough. The brisket was dry and tough and I threw it away and walked out. Clearly they don’t know how to cook brisket. After giving my review on Google, the owner responded that I was never there and must be a saboteur from Phil’s BBQ. I’ve never been to Phil’s, but will definitely check it out now. I certainly won’t ever come here even if it’s that last BBQ place in SoCal. Now only can’t they cook brisket, but the owner is clearly a jerk. With an attitude like that, he won’t be in business long.

Great Service! Worth the wait in line! Cooked to perfection! & Fresh! Comment for Ryansfortin : First of all McDonalds doesn’t have BBQ and there fries are frozen. The McRib doesn’t count! It’s like chunks of random meat pressed to look like ribs LOL your crazy. And as for Phil’s that place is its own kind of good restaurant.
