Setting the Bar High!. Setting the bar high. I have been to countless peruvian eateries and this is my take: they like to charge a pretty penny and not always deliver unforgettable food. Also the atmosphere may not be the nicest but I figure as long as they can deliver on quality food a lot of people are willing to ignore a less classier place for one of excellent food not too classy.Enter Casa Inka. Not on an incredible location, never the less the place is really nice inside, large room with quality tables and overall a very nice place to visit. Very clean in all areas and very nice service. But what about the food? The food is also above average. The size of the servings, the flavor of authentic peruvian food, etc. On our first visit to the place everyone in a party of 4 agreed wholeheartedly: this place merits a return visit and rather soon if it can be helped. Dinner for 4 (3 entrees, 3 appetizers, two deserts, two drinks) came to $90+ without gratuity but in the end no one was unhappy. Following dishes were consumed (not necessarily in that order): Choros a la Chalaca-mussels on half shell with a tasty red onion, tomato, chilies and what appear to be hominy, 6 to the plate. Add some lime or lemon juice and truly enjoyable. In Peru they like to eat dozes of these while consuming high quality cold beer, the perfect duo. 4.5 Stars even though a little bit pricey at $8.Papa a la Huancaina: also native to Peru is all about potatoes served on a silky sauce comprised of fresh cheese (queso fresco or feta type) with yellow chilies and other goodies that make it really tasty to start the show. 4 Stars easily.Tamales: this one pork, not too shabby but nothing to fall of the chair for. Close to a miss but no lower than 3 Stars, for it was not bad.Fried fish: Red Snapper on such a light batter and fried to perfection, served with white rice and some onion salsa on the side. Really good for people that enjoys fish. 4 Stars.Lomo Saltado: a peruvian staple consisting of quality beef properly marinated and fried a high heat with onions, tomatoes and cilantro, topped with freshly made french fries and rice on the side. This one is a crowd pleaser even though I found the whole song and dance with the potatoes a little too much, specially in the large quantity of french fries that came. Never the less the amount of beef was decent and the flavor all there. Big seller earns 4 Stars (barely to me).Tacu Tacu: beans refried in a tortilla shape with rice, served with a tasty thin steak and fried plantains (a kind of banana) and an egg on top, usually over medium unless otherwise requested. Chris liked it very much and gave it thumbs up. At almost $14 better be thumbs up. 4 Stars?Inka Kola: a peruvian soda that has become popular in america, must try it at least once. Yellow of color, it has its own distinctive flavor. 4?Chicha Morada: this drink is made by boiling the purple corn popular and Peru that releases this purple water. Add sugar, a little lemon, serve at right temperature and you got yourself a true winner. Beware many places use the chemical alternative that seems to taste like the real deal but it will never be as good. Just enough sugar to not make it overly sweet and this one is a true winner. 4.5 Stars in this case for it was the real deal.Water: did not find a lot of impurities on their H20 but it appeared clean to the naked eye and trust me when I say that some places are so scandalous that they serve water way below pure level, perhaps to encourage items that cost money? No score on this one drink.Alfajores: 12 small alfajores for around $8. Not too bad compared to the baloney they offer you in most other places, not the greatest either. 3 Stars.Lucuma Ice Cream: Lucuma is a fruit and it has so many healthy aspects and at the same time it makes one of the most delicious ice creams in God’s green earth. This particular product was not the pure, strong tasting Lucuma but it passed the mustard, served with 2 scoops and whipped cream it certainly helped with the digestion at that moment. Looking at the menu we saw other items but you can only blow so much money on a monday night so close to the holidays. I am tired of other peruvian places that instead of making peruvian food famous for all the right reasons they make it for all the wrong reasons. Casa Inka has a touch of class, nice service, clean place and they know what they are doing in the open kitchen. So the bar is set high and even though pricey well worth a visit if peruvian food is desired. We travelled about 35 miles to get there which means that sometimes you have to go a little out of your normal way for something good. In this case it proved worthy. Nice job, Casa Inka, can’t wait to try their ceviche next time and who knows? Maybe the Shrimp soup or Chupe de Camarones that when done right is plain delicious.

Excellent authentic Peruvian cuisine. Nice surroundings, good menu, good service. We will definitely be back as there is no other good Peruvian food within at least 20 miles !!
