Great food very cheap. This place is a bar with many great beers but also has a limited menu of surprisingly delicious mexican food. Most of the menu is priced at $5 … Yes that is right five bucks.I have had the steak nachos this time. They are very tasty and at the national chains prices….but much better tasting. It seems to be a cheap student hang out with great food. One of the hidden gems in Fresno. I never knew about this place until about a month ago when I met some friends there after work. This place has great food at very cheap prices…So it is a great value in my opinion.

Great Place. Red Wave has been there forever!! This is a great place to slum if you know what I mean! EVERYONE has been there and has a great time. Its a College bar for college kids and people who wish they were still in college! haha I LOVE goin to the Red Wave once in a while. The food really is very good and very cheap. HUGE selection of HUGE glasses of beers for cheap. after 9 it gets loud but never ruckus and most people are cool. Frustrated and need a cheap fun night out? Take a few friends and $15 to the Wave.

I’m too old for this place. It was so loud we turned around and walked out…. But someone told me they have the best chili verde nachos in town.

Good Student Pub. This family-owned and operated pub has been an anchor near Fresno State for over 20 years. It is located next door to the 7/11 at the corner of Maple and Shaw, right next door to the Original Stuffed Pipe in a strip mall. I have been a regulard for the better part of that generation. I love this place. Let me start with the food – cheap, good pub food. Burgers, chicken strips, chicken wings, fries. But the best is the Mexican food – chicken burritos and carne asada tortas are my favorites. I don’t believe there is anything on the menu for more than $6. Thursdays are Taco Night (50 cents I believe) but they are the hard-shell variety, good for starving students who can get 10 tacos for $5. The beer selection is remarkable for Fresno, a Bud/Coors/Miller town. Stone IPA, 1554 from New Belgium, Pilsner Urquel, Smithicks, Boddington, and of course Guiness, are but a few of the better tap handles. They used to carry IPA from Fresno’s own Sequoia Brewing Company and I wish their IPA would grace the Red Wave Inn again. Sierra Nevada has four tap handles, one of which is a seasonal brew. During winter, it usually is Celebration Ale, one of my favorites. The medium size is 26-ounces, the large is liter-size, similar to the sodas you can buy at 7/11 next door. The atmosphere is bipolar. In the afternoons it is quiet, with a few patrons. By 5 o’clock, workers begin to enter the place along with some students. Around 9:30 or 10 o’clock, students take over and it becomes a club without all the lights and fancy-dressed wannabes. On Fresno’s hot summer days, this is an oasis – dark, air conditioned, frosty mugs full of good cold beer. The Fierro family has run the place since the mid-80s. Maria (the owner and honorary mother for all us regulars) says she keeps prices as low as possible because she sympathizes with students who don’t have the money to go out for cocktails and a meal at Slates. I enjoy her sympathetic feelings because they keep me well fed and my thirst quenched for a low price. There are 3 big screen TVs and a pool table to keep folks occupied. If you want a good basic meal to fill you up and a good selection of beer, this is the place to go. The only criticism people have is that they can be understaffed and when a rush of people come in, it can take a while. On Taco Night, only order tacos, that is what they are prepped for. Back in the day when it was a tiny place, Maria would cook and run the bar by herself, serving up to 50 people at a time. If you want fast food, Wendys and McDonalds is right up Shaw Avenue at Cedar.
