Mothra Says…..Chef in a Windstorm. On a recent trip south, K and I wanted to visit this little town (that I discovered has grown) and try out one of a number of restaurants that have come to my attention. Willis Seafood and Raw Bar is just a block north of the town square.We were seated quickly at an outside table on a balmy 69f late afternoon. Carlee our server swung by after about 7 minutes and asked for our order. By that time we had pretty much decided on a couple of hors d oeuvres and a bottle of wine.Soon after our order, a basket of bread and whipped butter arrived along with a bottle of Hanna sav blanc. Might I say: nothing better than bread and a good wine. I am pretty sure that the flavor whipped into the butter was garlic…. and it was delicious. Ten minutes later Ks 3 fried oysters with a tiny diced kimchee salad underneath and a dollop of fine yellow caviar on top arrived. Wow! My one NY blue point raw oyster with two types of sauce (red tomato based and a champagne vinaigrette) arrived. I have not yet had a lower east coast raw oyster and wanted to give it a try. Surprisingly good. Lastly, a small plate of flash fried calamari in a spicy orange sauce. Very nice. These were hot out of the fryer and onto our plate. Very, very tasty calamari. We sat and enjoyed the afternoon sipping our wine watching as both tourists and locals alike walked by.Pluses: the menu and the cuisine is terrific. Very tasty dishes.Minuses: Service and prices. The prices are high. The oysters were 10.50 for 3. The large plates on the menu were priced in the teens and higher. The service although speedy came without a smile. Our server made the leaves blow as she whooshed by our table and only once stopped when I flagged her down to get the bill. I can recommend what the chef is producing, but little else. Too many good restaurants to try in Healdsburg. Mothra will not be back soon. 3.15 of 5.0
On a Weds uncrowded eve, We were seated and then ignored for at least 20 minutes. When we decided to leave a server was so obtuse that he thanked us for coming and wished us a good night without realizing we hadn’t had a bite

Delicious small plates! We had to convince our friends to give Willi’s a try because they had a bad experience 3 years ago. Happy to say Willi’s made up for that and more. Wait staff was skillful; thee food was outstanding. Highly recommended.
Great food and atmosphere. This is the perfect place for a light lunch or maybe a little in-betweener meal if you’re having a late dinner. The oysters, crabcake and sourdough bread were all delicous. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and the outdoor patio was shady, breezy and perfect for an afternoon treat.
Can’t help myself!!!. I feel like I need to come here with at least 6 people because it gives me an excuse to order one of everything on the menu. I feel like I don’t need to read the menu because I’ve eaten here enough times to know that I have complete faith that whatever I order, it WILL be good – even if they change it. Call me ridiculous, but I think they are just THAT good. Mmmmm….Willi’s…..
