I grew up in Northern New Jersey where bagels are elevated to an art form. Compared to any other bagel shop I have found in the city, Big City Bagels offers the closest thing to the bagels I grew up on. They are dense, with a crunchy exterior and doughy interior. They offer a variety of flavors/toppings, but I consistently go for the traditional sesame, everything, or cinnamon/raisin bagels. If you have ever been lucky enough to enjoy a NJ/NY area bagel, give BCB a try. It will bring you a little taste of the East Coast. gastroventures.com

Great, simple, & fresh breakfast. As usual, we were looking for something not too heavy for breakfast and also something local, not touristy. We stumbled across this place while driving around the Hillcrest area. It was simple and delicious. I had a basic everything bagel with lox cream cheese and cucumbers and my husband tried one of their savory breakfast crpes. Both of those items were really tasty as well as the Mac nut coffee. Everything there looked really good. We will definitely come back to this joint next time we are in San Diego!
