Lunch spots around Hillcrest and University Heights are plentiful. We came back to BFD for a second visit today. Their sandwiches combine interesting ingredients, an industrial decor and some lighthearted fun. We tried the Cali Cubano and Smokey the Meatloaf. Both were fresh and delicious. On our prior visit we tried the baby back rib sandwich and an eggplant meatless-ball. All were delicious! If you are craving a gourmet sandwich, check out BFD! gastroventures.com
This is by far the best sandwich place in SD. I’ve had about everything on the menu at this point and I’ve never been disappointed. They also have a cool soda selection.

Good eats!. Was sorry to see the European Deli close its doors, but in its place came BFD and we have been intrigued. FInally stopped in today for sandwiches, which were very good. Tried two side salads which were also very good, and really liked the rum raisin cookies. Not sure why the owner was tasting wine with a wine rep when there was a line of customers waiting, and they don’t serve wine. Line seemed to be taken care of in short order though. Hopefully a liquor license will come soon to be able to drink on premise. Very cool atmosphere. A nice new addition to the neighborhood.
Cute place but I did not like it.Pros:friendly staff, cute environmentCons: nasty sandwichI ordered the sugar B sandwich. Huge slab of cream cheese (no joke, almost two inches thick and as wide as the sandwich) and overpoweringly sweet with the strawberries, mandarin oranges AND honey? All of these things are good– but not combined this way!
