The crepes and gelato are really great! Pretty pricey though. The place is small, tight, uncomfortable, and honestly a bit tacky. Service is pretty bad; unfriendly and really slow every time I’ve gone.
The crepe was great, the chocolate genache cheesecake was ok. Great atmosphere. Gelato looks awesome.
This place has a real hipster, contempo type feel. The crepes are amazing! And the coffee is pretty good too. The only downside is the prices, but it was expected. I got a crepe w/ bananas, nutella, and coffee gelato & a Lion Kona cup of coffee which came out to about $20. Other than that, great date spot.
Solid Food, Awful Service. I have been to this restaurant quite a few times and I am disappointed that the service has been going steadily down hill. In a most recent visit on 1/12/13, we were not greeted, water took much too long, servers much more interested in talking to each other than helping customers, no follow up to check in and server clearly did not care that we were there. I will not be going back.
A highlight of the Gaslamp district.. I ate here twice last week, and both times it was excellent. The flatbread pizza was very good, and the turkey panini was excellent. The gelato was also excellent. I saw a bunch of other dishes being served up, and everything looked tasty. Contrary to other reviewers, we had no problems with the service, even when they were busy. Restaurants along the Gaslamp Quarter can be hit or miss, and this is definitely a hit for us.
Love the sandwiches. Everything at chocolat is good but the service which is not horrible, just understaffed.decor 4food 5price $$
Definitely overrated.. The gelato is amazing and beautifully displayed – but that’s the extent of my praise for Chocolat. I will gladly pay 3.00 for a good French macaron but Chocolat’s macarons were not only stale and very ugly (as were their other deserts) but overpriced. The environment is beautiful but loud and their service is mostly non-existent. I will say that for my partner, a vegetarian and animal lover, the cowhide chairs were a little tacky and disconcerrting. It appeared as though many other diners felt the same way preferring to stand or sit on other chairs than touch the cowhide. Their chocolates and truffles are nothing to rave about and don’t hold a candle even to See’s mass produced candies. Next time you have a craving for chocolate – buy a Hershey’s bar. I’ll return for the gelato, IF their service improves.
