2017/08/12Crest Cafe is a cozy, neighborhood diner. We found it by looking for restaurants for breakfast that have been on Triple D. Crest Cafe must have been happy with their appearance, since all the staff wear shirts with an image of Guy Fieri on the back of their shirts.SWMBO started off her day with the Apple Cinnamon French Toast. The French toast was moderately fluffy, and the apples and cinnamon mixture was sweet and pleasant.I chose the Sunrise Salmon Scrambler: fresh grilled salmon, eggs, chives, red onions, and capers. A nice, savory, salty blend in each bite.Service was friendly and fast.

On a recent vacation to the San Diego area, we tried to find several local places to eat in order to get authentic San Diego experience. Anytime that we visit a city that I’ve never been too, I always try to look up places from the Food Network (typically Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives) to try. Crest Cafe came up and it was recommended that you get the Butter Burger. So, I did.The burger was simply okay. It was nothing special. Yes, it was extremely greasy and juicy but had little flavor and was more of a mess than I really wanted to deal with. I also got the homemade potato chips. They were pretty good, but again, nothing that really set them apart from others. The service was good. The waiter we had was very friendly and attentive. We didn’t have problems with getting refills and our food came out in a timely manner, so there are no complaints there.Basically, I was really hoping for more because I’ve been to other DDD restaurants that were amazing, this just isn’t one of them.

Maybe other menu items are better. The food was tired and boring, but edible. Service was so so. Not sure why this place was on DDD, I could make better, seriously. Will not be back.

Great food but making people with small kids wait for the whole party is uncool. Kids just get more riled up and in a small waiting area it’s no fun for anyone.

Great late night or casual option! Our food was yummy and service was Excellent! Faustino was very kind, attentive, and thoughtful. The chicken pot pie and mango Brie quesadilla were very tasty! My husband and I are from out of town and had a great dining experience.

An insult to Cafes (and crests). This little hole in the sidewalk should be shut down – pronto! The owner clearly has a sense of entitlement and snarky attitude and seems to pride herself on condescending customers. The staff clearly has a group of local favorites to which it panders while virtually ignoring any casual customers. This sort of elitism may play well to the Hillcrest dynamic, but to other residents simply looking for a decent meal, it is entirely repulsive. We will never, ever return to this caf-tastrophe, and that’s saying something considering we live one block over and frequently dine out for breakfast.

Tasty. Yes the portions are huge but forget about that. The food is delicious. We had the Cabo quesidilla and the lemon ricotta pancakes w/ a side of bacon. Everything was terrific. keep in mind that if you do order the side of bacon it is enough for the whole table to share. wait staff is friendly and quick. I would definitely recommend to anyone coming to the area. We were staying Hillcrest so this was very convenient. Breakfast for 2 with coffee was $30 so just a little more than I would normally pay but worth it.
