Exactly what we were in the mood for. We went for dinner on a Saturday evening at 8 before a show and this place fit the bill. Some inexpensive wine choices, fantastic salads: blood orange salad with chicken (and you really get a ton of great tasting chicken for $4) and lettuce wedge salad…both great. Soup of the day was tomato basil and was one of the best I’ve had. Tried both of the daily entree specials, asparagus risotto and veggie lasagna. Both had huge flavor, balanced and hearty but not too heavy. Friend got stuffed chicken and potatoes, which was surprisingly light and delicate for such a dish but I was loving it. A great balanced restaurant, top notch food but not too expensive, great service, and amazing atmosphere with a French/Spanish flair.
Tasty and different. My wife and i enjoyed the pleasant service and generous portions. each dinner provided us with lunch the next day.
Absolutely love this place. The staff is unbelievably friendly and funny. The portobello mushroom pizza is a personal favorite of mine. I will be returning immediately.
It Works. We had the duck ragu and the speck pizza as main courses. The ragu was extraordinary. The pizza was good, but a touch dry. I could have corrected this with a request for some olive oil but accepted it as is. The mixed salad featured the freshest of greens, but it was terribly underdressed. The spinach salad was very good, but, like an earlier reviewer’s experience with missing cranberries, we failed to get the strawberries in the spinach and strawberry salad. In all, the food was good, but the attention to detail was quite careless. We had one of those overly effusive young waitresses, eager to please but ingratiatingly inauthentic. They could use more professional waitstaff.
What a breath of fresh air Fig Tree Cafe is and such a great addition to Hillcrest. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. My favs for breakfast are the French toast and organic fruit mimosas and favs for dinner are the meat and cheese boards with the succulent short ribs w/ a smooth glass of Pinot! Love this place. Ps here’s a tip…they validate parking in the Union Bank Building next door. ;-)17 Nov, 2011What a breat of fresh air Fig Tree Cafe is and such a great addition to Hillcrest.
