I loved it! I had the daily fish special along with roasted beets and carrots. It came in a nice cream sauce, excellent. Very friendly waitress, cool decor, a nice dining experience.
Open less than a week now, Bar by Red Door is a renovated space that has replaced a steakhouse which was served from the same kitchen, by the same chef and under the same owner as Mission Hills mainstay, The Red Door, pretty much San Diegos restaurant poster child for approachable gourmet food created from organic, sustainable and locally sourced ingredients. Bar by Red Door has also gotten two visits from me in the same amount of time, which is one more than most places getever. Not because all those other places arent good, heck, sometimes great, but becauseso many places to eat, so little time
Todays flat bread was made of a fluffy, slightly crisped on the bottom crust, topped with a mildly salty cheese, kale & a perfectly bright, fresh egg. Flaky. Buttery. Light. Perfect. (The wine went very well, thank you.)Two desserts were ordered for the table with coffees all around. The baked chocolate mousse was cold and difficult to cut through so it didnt quite do it for me on a chilly day but the cobbler!!!! cur8eur.com
Pretty good little place. Yummy food great service and recommendations. Small and great ambience in this really darling place. Got a short rib plate that was mouth watering. Would eat less dinner so I could try dessert next time.
We came to The Red Door for lunch. We shared the restaurant with one other table of 2. The food is locally sourced farm-to-table with a number of vegetarian options available. We enjoyed the quinoa cake sand which and the cranberry chicken salad which is served over slices of focaccia. The chicken salad was very fresh and creamy. The dried cranberries added a nice tartness. The bread was a good complement to the dish because it was substantial enough without being too dense. We were surprised by the quinoa cake. The seasonings were perfect and it was complemented with goat cheese, black beans and avocado. Probably one of the best veggie sandwiches I have tried in a while. The third item we tried was the flatbread of the day. It was uninspired and literally fell flat (see what I did there?!?). This is not a lunch destination for a quick meal. Even with an empty restaurant out meals took about 25 minutes to prepare. Service was a little inattentive. Good food. Not great food. Overall –meh. Andy gastroventures.com
Came here for brunch and I was wowed! I had their B.A.T Benny and my husband had their Ribs n Cakes. Once we were done eating, it looked like there was never any food on our plates! Yes, it was that good. I also really enjoyed the live music that they had, it made me feel like I was eating at a family gathering, rather than a business. Kudos to whomever decided on live music! 🙂 My only suggestion is to be on top of refilling the bottomless drinks. jazmenmarienoelani.com
I had an absolutely exquisite dining experience. We started with the shishito peppers. They were cooked perfectly with a sweet glaze that was so good, I used the house bread to mop up the plate. (Side note: Bread is my favorite food, so I look forward to the complimentary bread at most meals. The bread here was fresh and served with a delicious white bean hummus. Win!) Then came the beet and fried squash blossom salad. This was very good, but not a showstopper. I’d recently been to an event where Red Door’s chef served an out-of-this-world stuffed pumpkin blossom, so I think that colored my impression of this dish a bit. But still, it was a solid option. Then came the main event, and the must-order thing on the menu that I’ll be dreaming about until I return: the lamb meatballs. I know it doesn’t sound like the most exciting dish, but trust me, it’s a flavor explosion. It’s perfectly seasoned with some sort of pesto or aioli that gives it a nice kick, and balances out the earthiness of the root vegetables it’s served with. And there’s feta involved. Need I say more?To top it off, we split the banana cream pie for dessert. As you can tell from the picture, this isn’t your momma’s banana cream pie. Weirdly enough, the crust was my favorite part (it was that good)! San Diego has a lot of great dining options. But I really loved that The Red Door provided high-quality food, without the pretense. We went on a Friday night but found parking without issue, and there was a really relaxed, homey vibe inside. It’s gorgeously decorated, but not at the price of comfort. I’ll definitely be back! thejewskimo.com
