Place is cool when it comes to decor! Love the tiki!!! Everything else… Food, Drinks, Service… Not so much. I come for happy hour and sit only in the dagger bar. Andi is the best cocktail waitress. The bartenders are nothing special. If the one guy tells me once more that the Navy Grog was Frank Sinatras favorite drink I may have to tell him what he can do with it.

STEER CLEAR!!!!. Edit ReviewWe had our wedding here on saturday night. They did a great job on the food, the venue was nice. That is where the nice part ends. We were told we could pick up our wedding cake at any time, they threw it away. They don’t regulate the regular patrons of the establishment, we had wedding crasher signatures all over our guest book, and gifts missing due to that. Drunk people roaming all over our party, taking advantage of the free bar, etc. dont book your party here, spoke with, the owner who continually giggled about the situation while I was crying. He offered to make me a new cake. Seriously!? My best friend from high school made this cutting cake, you can’t just replace it. That was the only remedy he offered for all these terrible things. Shame on you dons. You can’t just say you aren’t responsible for peoples gifts, etc when they pay you $5k, and every other time I have been to this establishment they have someone regulating the door. Had we been given a specific time frame (we showed up less than 48 hours later) we would have set something up to make sure our cake had not been tossed. Andre the coordinator said nothing directly to me of this situation. So i will remember this any other way than that the owners of Dons were laughing in my face (literally, between laughing and giggling the whole meeting), as i was terribly upset and crying about the occurance(s). We personally asked the uninvited guests to leave. When Andre (our coordiator) left, it was difficult to find the new attendee in charge to even just dim the lights let alone take time away seek her out for more. I never would have been into Don’s bar, with my mother (who paid the large bill-and mind you we were paying customers again at this point) had i known how many gifts i was going to need to account for later. Shame on them for continually playing the blame game here and not taking any of this on themselves. I will be contacting BBB, and every wedding referral site possible to make this right since you have chosen only to offer ‘a new cake’. Good luck in your endeavours if you choose this venue, otherwise steer clear!!!!

The 50s is not so cool, just old.. This place could be so cool, but. I can only think of 3 reasons to go here. 1. the bar coasters have history (fake yes but history) 2. The bartender had great stories of days long gone by from the original Don’s.3. The tike mug collection on the wall int he bar. We went to Don the Beachcomber for drinks, pupus and dinner for my wife’s and daughter in laws B-Day. The 4 of us met in the bar. The bartender had great stories about the 16 ingredient mixes they used and they are patented recipes etc.Well it was all downhill from there. The drinks were strong as advertised but they were AWEFUL. The 16 ingredients must be the booze from the bar mat. We had one round and hit the road never to return.Bottom-line: If your looking for some long lost memories from the 1950’s then by al means stop by otherwise. Save time and money go someplace else.

Patron. We read the article in the oc register on thursday feb.11 written by cathy thomas. i have to say in the 24 years of our marriage, and 24 valentine day dinners, this was far and beyond the worst dining experience that we have shared. the new year special was terrible, the service was sub-standard and the price was was way beyond the outer limits. we were seated with two menus, one the new years special, and the other a surf@turf special for couples. we were never advised that we could have ordered off of the regular menu, besides the food being very small and not palatable, the service from the wait staff through the management was terrible. i don’t mind paying over a $100..00 for a meal that myself and my wife enjoy, (we’ve been fortunate to enjoy many expensive dinners in our relationship, but yours was absurd. if the dinner was half way enjoyable and tasty it would be what it was. but we couldn’t wait to pick up our check and leave. very disappointed and disillusioned. we saw numerous tables with the same problems, either of the same nature or others. we felt like just leaving and not paying, that was how bad our experience was. this is the first time in many, many years that i have ever complained, but somewhere along the line something isn’t going right. we have many friends, couples that will ask us about our dining venture. i hope you correct your problems, or I’m sure business will not be what you have hoped for.we would maybe try you again, but there are many other establishments that offer quality service, quality food, and a management staff that understands what it takes to be successful.Larry
