The good, the bad and the ugly. I’m kind of ambivalent about recommending this place, but I do recommend it.First the good. The fish is outstanding. I love fried fish, but only when it’s fresh, well seasoned, not greasy and not over-cooked. And that kind of fish has been pretty hard to find lately, especially after 5C’s Louisiana Seafood moved to West Covina (and then went out of business). But good fried fish is still to be had, and it’s at Original Pico Seafood. Their hush puppies are also pretty darn good. Now the bad. The french fries are the frozen crinkle cut variety. The potato salad and cole slaw are from Smart & Final (or some similar mass market pre-packaged kind of junk). Why do joints in the hood think you want bland side orders to go with your tasty fish/ribs? I guess if the entree is good I’m supposed to be happy with just any old slop on the side? I don’t get it.Now the ugly. This place is a hole in the wall in an absolute dump of a strip mall in the hood. If you need ambiance to go with your meal, you won’t get it here.So conclusion: If you are in the Inglewood area and want some really good (I mean REALLY good) fried fish and you don’t mind lackluster side dishes to go with it, and you don’t mind walking through a bunch of people loitering around a filthy strip mall that smells of spilled beer and God knows what else (pee yoo!) … well this is your place.
