We had the special sashimi, grilled octopus, shrimp tempura, tempura udon, rainbow roll and dragon roll. I cannot comment on the special sashimi because my son ate most of it and it looked delicious but he had an episode of diarrhea that evening and we suspect the sashimi was the culprit. The tempura was well made and tasted great the rainbow and dragon rolls were really delicate, well made and delicious. The grilled octopus was good and so was the udon. The atmosphere was comfortable but had a lot of mileage. Staff are very friendly.
We are SOO disappointed in this restaurant. After reading rave reviews about it, we went for dinner. We were seated and tossed half a dozen menus. A few minutes later, they took our drink order. When the waitress came back with our drinks and to take our food order, it was only then that we found out the sushi chef was not in and sushi was not available. So we attempted to order a clam dish only to find out they were also out of clams and muscles. Had we known that beforehand, we would not have ordered drinks and gone somewhere else instead. So we finished our drinks and went down the street to Ichiro – which was fantastic!
Authentic Japanese tapas…. This super secret Izakaya (bar), squeezed between two military recruitment offices, has no front signage – plain awning, window shades drawn with only the suite # on display announcing its presence. Izakaya is a bar which happens to serve food – think tapas. A very large beverage menu offering sakes, sojus, beers, wines and teas is given along with the food menu. These are small dishes which are fried, grilled, sushi, sashimi, soba, udon and tempura. The salmon collar was divine and bursting with flavor – great with a beer! Sampled the uni sushi and it was fantastic – I swear it melted in my mouth and was clearly hands down the best uni I’ve ever had. Oysters tasted like the ocean and flavored with ponzu and soy. I noticed too late there was an Uni pasta, which I’ve never seen before, on the menu and I will definitely go back to try it. A nearby table had a chirashi bowl which looked incredible. Zaru soba was exactly as it should be: firm to the bite and very flavorful dipping sauce (not too salty). If you are looking for the ubiquitous chicken teriyaki bento box, this is not the place. There are no Americanized rolls on this menu – be adventurous with your palate, it will thank you. You will be surprised on how great and varied Japanese food can be. Service is very friendly and not intrusive, dishes are brought out when they are individually ready. Groups of 2 or 4 is common sitting at oversized tables sharing dishes. Relax, unwind and enjoy your companion’s company and remember leave the kiddies at home with a sitter.
