Not very good. I only go here in the middle of the night but the service sucks and it has typical crappy diner food. would rather have jack in the box that late.
Fantastic authentic fried clams!. I am a long relocated New Englander. The one thing I have so missed since moving here are the fried clams. Of the very few places I’ve found them out here, this is the one and only place where they are truly authentic. They have lots of other very tasty foods (I always sample a taste of my friends’), but fried clams are the only thing I EVER order here. (Luckily my friends have no interest in mine so I don’t have to share. :^) ) Great kitchy atmosphere, open 24/7 (another thing I’ve missed), great staff.
Love it! I love places where I can get breakfast all day. We were all happy with our meals and the service was good. Try the apple pie if you’re not too stuffed.
Good old american diner. Food is always good.
Diner food? No way!. I love diner food and finding a really good one here in San Diego is difficult. Brian’s American and Harry’s in La Jolla have true diner food. This is my second attempt at Studio Diner to get a decent meal. I’m not giving it a third try.We started with an order of onion rings with no zest to them at all and very little flavor other than that of old grease. It was a strange batter for onion rings. They got pushed to the side. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and I got the prime rib sandwich. If you’ve ever eaten a real home cooked style chicken fried steak, you know it isn’t mostly breading and then greasy gravy made from flour and water. Bland is an understatement. My sandwich roll was chewy and flavorful, the meat was not. It was a low quality cut and tough. My waffle fries were cold and tasted as if they were frozen rather than fresh. Unacceptable for the prices charged!I work close to this place and there are over 200 people in my building. I don’t know one person that goes here on a regular basis. That tells me a lot, but the food I ate told me even more. Blah.
Nice place, parking is bad. Park in the lot east of the building. Food was good.
Shock and Awe. Going to Studio Diner is all about the shock and awe of the food. The portions are huge and they’re really greasy. To me, this diner food is a piece of Americana that I had to experience. The Fish and Chips is excessively huge. When the plate comes down, the massive haddock is an overwhelming sight. The fish was well-cooked, had a nice light batter and tasted really good on the first few bites, but halfway through it was a bit much – it was too large to manage and the fish taste just got too strong over time. The Count of Monte Cristo was similar. First few bites were great and I got through half of it loving the juicy, but scalding hot slices of ham and turkey melted in cheese. I guiltily enjoyed it being deep-fried in batter and topped with powdered sugar. However, with all that goodness, I wasn’t too sure what to make of the jam preserve side. It was too complicated to add more sweetness to the sandwich.Studio Diner seemed to be a bit far off in San Diego. I definitely had to go off the beaten path and out of my way to get there. But in the end, the restaurant provided great service and a quick unique meal, so the experience was quite nice.
