Once again, since its on the way home, my usual simple request of mashed potatos NO packaged gravy can’t be followed! We stop here frequently. As my husband likes the tritrip but with the new menu / staff / and owners, we won’t be back! Harris Ranch precooked roasts are much better quality, @ a better price!! WONT BE BACK!!04 Jun, 2011Ohh and the French fries have sugar on them. That’s. The magic they sprinkle on right after they are pulled from the hot oil w/ salts. They are the best.04 Jun, 2011Champs is the best BBQ in Bakersfield since the loss of Lou’s on cottonwood & sock it to me on p St. Champs BBQ sauce and meats are GREAT but have been on the salty side. The sides need much improvement & have gone from homemade to processed pre made product. Service is great as they know my husband and I by name & all the lil extras we like with our order w/o asking. 6/10 *’s
Eh…… Champs is one of the places where the food is good but the portion size is too small for what they charge. Its not one place I frequently go to but it will do if I am meeting family there.
I had this bbq’d my first day here in Bakersfield and I won’t have it again. The beef tasted like it was boiled and only seasoned with pepper. The hot links were cold, no smoke flavor and I could have bought a box of them at Walmart for much less money. I hope other bbq places here are better.
FANTASTIC BBQ !!!. I eat here on a routine basis and I would just like to say I have never had any better BBQ. (and I’ve had BBQ all over!) My favorites are the Tri-tip sandwich with sauteed onions and peppers and the BBQ’d chicken. And I don’t know what they sprinkle on those fries but the are addicting ! Recently I have been getting the Tri-tip chili with cornbread…yummy. I hear people drive all the way from Porterville and Tulare just to get the Catfish and Jambalaya on Friday’s ! Although I hate fish that’s impressive non-the-less.. They just recently changed ownership so I was really worried the place and the food would change.. and, truth be told, it has.. for the better ! Note to Champs: Expand…the place is too small and the parking sucks at a busy lunchtime. (But I guess that shows how good the food is)
It’s very good.
The food is always tasty here. Oddly enough even though they are a BBQ place a couple of my favorites there are the French fries and the Cajun Catfish.
Champs Bar b que. I used Champs to cater my wedding on 8/29/09……I called as requested the day before to give the final count. I had to leave a message on the machine. On my wedding day they didn’t show up on time. In fact they were over 1 hour late. I tried calling several times, the club director tried calling,. my daughter tried calling and the phone wasn’t answered. We called the restaurant and they didn’t know anything about it.We were married a noon at the club house in my development. Champs arrived at 12:45……My guest’s had to help set up the tables and etc for the food. Helped place the food and drink on the tables. I had plenty of wine and water and beer…Champs was supplying tea and lemonade….For over an hour my guest’s were drinking wine and beer….needless to say I was stressed out! When Champs did arrive my guest’s helped with the unloading of the food and set up the tables for service…..I was completely unnerved! We paid the full bill for the event, but to this day I’ve not heard from the caterer director nor from anyone from Champs to apoligize. The kid they sent said they had staffing problems that day. (That wasn’t my fault!)The food was good….the ribs were a bit dry, but other than that okay. The event had 65 guest’s and I can tell you that this put a real damper on my wedding day!
