Very small place with great food. The Concha Negra ceviche is one of the best ceviches I’ve had hands down. The Mojo de ajo (garlic shrimp) was a perfect mix of garlic and lemon. I continued to eat the garlic sauce even after the shrimp was gone. The shrimp tacos were ok, nothing to brag about like the ceviche and garlic shrimp. Not much flavor.Going off of the first two dishes, I’ll be most definitely coming back. Especially to try out the Aguachiles.Visit date 3/22/2015

Great Seafood !!!. Mari & I took a half day off work just to go and try out La Cevicheria. We were lucky to find a parking spot on one of the side streets we did pull up in the Market parking lot accross the street but we noticed a guy hanging out under one of the tree’s who was probably the parking lot Security for the Market so we did the street parking a block away. One of the first things I noticed was all the high end cars parked on the street Porche’s, Audi’s more Porches…and when we entered the restaurant it was pretty full but we did find a hight stool table just as we walked in. The place is small, I mean for the clientele it serves. I had the Shrimp & Octopus Cocktail, Mari had a Shrimp Cocktail and then we both had a Fish Taco.My Shrimp & Octopus Cocktail was good, very fresh tasting, Mari also said it was very fresh tasting. The Fish Taco’s were really good ! we’ve experimented lots of Seafood places and this place is GOOD !!! we will be going back to try out those Bloody Clams and much more that was on the menu. La Cevicheria is a must try Mari & I will give a overall rating for food: B+ For Service: C+

Light, refreshing meal with some friendly service. I discovered La Cevicheria while browsing Yelp for the highest-ranked seafood restaurants of Los Angeles. This casual eatery scores some high praise from many online reviewers, so it was naturally a must-try when we were in the area. The restaurant is located in the east end of LA (Mid-City area) on an unsuspecting street complete with metal gates to secure the front entrance and the front windows. There is parking along most of the side streets, but most of the spots were full when we got there. There is also a grocery store across the street with a private parking lot which I guess you can use at your own discretion. We went during lunch on a Wednesday, and while there were a few other patrons at the other tables, we had no wait time at all and were seated immediately. The staff were extremely friendly in greeting us, and explained the menu while making a few recommendations: the Concha Negra and the Chapin.I went for the mixed Concha Negra ($15) which is a Guatemalan style mix with blood clams, shrimp, octopus (which I subbed with imitation crab), tomatoes, onions, avocado, mint, lime juice, and Worcestershire sauce. This is served up with soda crackers, corn tortillas, and if you like, a house-made habanero sauce (by request) and other commercial hot sauces (just on the table). I quite liked this — it was very fresh and the flavors had a good punch. The fresh mint is really nice, but I would’ve liked less lime juice in mine as I found the lime a bit too sour and overpowering. Nonetheless, this was really delicious with some soda crackers crumbled into it and scooped up with the corn tortillas. Finished every last bite, including eating many bites from my brother and boyfriend’s orders. Yum.My brother ordered the Chapin ($10) which is very similar to the Concha Negra mix, except it has a mix of imitation crab meat, shrimp, and octopus. It’s basically the same thing but with imitation crab substituted in the place of clams. The clams were good, but they really don’t change the flavor profile that much; I don’t think they are really worth the extra $5, unless you A) are a tourist like me and want to try it for kicks or B) happen to be some kind of blood clam enthusiast. My brother agreed that he thought the lime juice was a little too strong for him too, but he seemed to enjoy the dish overall. The boyfriend is not a huge fan of shrimp, so he opted for the Pescado ($10) which is a mix of fish, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, avocado, and lime juice and the Tacos De Pescado ($4.50) which gets you two (deep fried) fish tacos. I did get to try a bit of both his dishes and they were both excellent. The ceviche was good, and I enjoyed the freshness of the fish, but I liked the Guatemalan style of my ceviche better. The fish tacos were notably delicious as the fish was just out of the fryer (super crispy) embedded in mostly cabbage, and wrapped in a soft taco shell. This was overall a really great lunch spot and we did not leave disappointed; it is wonderful if you are looking for a light, inexpensive, sit-down lunch with some good (but casual) service.—-TL;DRFood 4.5/5 – Try: Chapin ceviche, Tacos De PescadoPrice $$ – $10-15Ambiance 2.5/5 – casual seating, nothing fancyService/Wait 4/5 – no wait time, friendly staff—Overall 4/5

  • The Good Grub

La Cevicheria = Good Grub!. Forgive me father, for I have sinned. It has been years since my last confessional. Well there’s no delicate way to put this. Up until about a month ago … wow, this is hard to say … I had never had … please forgive me … ceviche. I know, I know. What have I been thinking all these years? When did I wander down the path of wicked and despair? But alas, I have changed! I have tasted the wonder. I have basked in its glory, and I have discovered the place to make all your ceviche dreams come true … La Cevicheria. I got the push in the right direction from my Auntie Grub, and the final jolt from my Grub-buddy Anthony F. So if you were as lost as I was, or even if you’re a seasoned ceviche-conessuior, there’s no excuse for not heading down to this unbelievable Grub-spot … now. If you are in fact new to the ceviche-trade, let me try to break it down for you mi amigo … start with some super fresh, ultra flavorful fillets of fish, succulent shrimp, chunks of crab, morsels of … octopus? (Yeah, it’s pretty much anything you can handle) … And then they patiently wait as it all marinates in a citrus bath, soaking up all the juices, cooking in the acidity, planning its attack on your taste buds. Pair it up with some avocado, a little cilantro, an extra squeeze of lime, and a dash of hot-sauce … well it’s only time before you fall in love with the super-light yet incredibly-flavorful ambrosia that you’ll find at La Cevicheria. With no real background to rely upon, we just ordered a bunch of stuff … a shrimp ceviche tostada, a fish ceviche tostada, and the mother load … the Guatemalan Mixed, a goblet filled with shrimp, octopus, and crab. Each order came loaded on top of (see the tostada) or accompanied by (see the Goblet of Glory) fresh-n-crispy, perfectly salty, goldeny-delicious-fried corn tortillas. Screw forks and knives, I’m using these amazing circles of happiness for everything I eat from now on. Because break off a piece and dip it directly into the massive glass of ceviche, and just try to stop smiling as you take each bite … slowly being overcome with the realization that you’ve found all that is right in the world. So wait no longer, head down to La Cevicheria for some seriously Good Grub … you don’t know what you’ve been missing. But let me give you a hint, it rhymes with GRUB!

Great food! Humble location, small and intimate. The Ceviche Guatemalteco is sooo good and is prepared with mint instead of cilantro. Another recommendation is the mussels with a delicious garlic sauce served hot. Prices are affordable and definitely worth the portions. I want to add that the service was great. The owner/chef came out to greet us and was friendly. Family owned establishment.
