Deep Fried Catfish. Fried catfish, when done right, is one of my favorite things ever. While not exceptional, Crawdaddy’s is pretty close to right. The cornmeal batter is crispy and perfectly done. Each bite is just a little salty. Most of the fish is flavorful and reasonably fresh, though mushy. Every order comes with four massive fillets and a pile of seasoned Cajun fries, all for $11. If there’s a better deal in the area let me know; a similar basket at Lillie Mae’s goes for $16.13 Jan, 2015Crawdaddy (Cajun/Seafood). Most Cajun dishes feature seafood, and most Cajun seafood places outside of the South suck. In other news, the sky is blue, and water is wet. Crawdaddy is one of the handful of somewhat traditional eateries West of Texas that does a passable job. The menu is simple. It features a dozen entrees in the $8-$13 range, headlined by the whole boiled crawfish. Other items include fried catfish, whole Cajun Dungeness Crab, and boiled Lobster. No item is a showstopper, but none are disappointing (other than the gumbo, which lacks depth of flavor and a passable broth). Though fresh and well seasoned, the cooked crustaceans are a little bland and skimpy. My favorite, the catfish, is good, but the fish is mushy and salty. Crawdaddy’s Cajun fries are delicious, crispy, and pack a punch. Portion sizes are large, making the low prices even more appealing. Loud music aside, the restaurant is comfortable and service is excellent. Far less hyped and far less crowded than nearby Boiling Crab, this place is a good back up if you’re in the area and craving Cajun.Rating: 6.2/10 tasteperiod.blogspot.com
