Grandma would be Proud. How nice it is to be surprised when you visit a restaurant expecting the same ‘ol thing and something like Baja Sonora turns up! We walked in and the party was just starting. It was 5:45 and already hungry customers were lined up at the counter ready to give Sonia their meal orders.. When my turn came up she was very patient. I must have been gushing because I could smell all these wonderful aromas. I ordered the Carne asada plate for a friend and I ordered the chicken enchilada, Mary’s way. (It’s topped with pico de gallo and sliced avacado)They both came with tasty rice and beans and a beverage. You then get a number and wait for a few minutes and out comes your delicious food! They have a great selection of fruit drinks or as they are known in Mexico, Aguas frescas. They also have tasty chips and a salsa bar. Just when our dinner couldn’t have gotten any better, out comes Mary herself. (She and her husband are the owners.) When she asks how we like it, I reply that my Mexican grandmother would have been proud to eat here…
Really close to airport and quick. We loved the medium salsa and chips, tacos, pork chile verde and ‘orange whip’. We will be returning next time we’re in long beach. A new favorite!! Wish we would have taken a picture because the restaurant was a little scary looking on the outside, but charming and clean on the inside.
Carnitas Heaven!. While on business here in Long Beach, we extended our stay through the weekend. Having been here before several years ago, we wanted to stop by before our return flight home. Not sure if they were open on Sunday, but as it turned out they were. I ordered the Carnitas Plate and my the Chimi, both were so wonderful, along with the chips and the variety of salsas you can’t go wrong.YES
Baja Sonora has been a constant Favorite for the past 3 years .. Their food is always fresh and tasty .. I have never had anything from there that was even marginal .. Always a winner !!
This place was great! Killer salsa bar and awesome burritos. Can’t wait to go back!
