  Mixed Review. We loved this place the last time we visited Los Angeles, and couldn’t wait to return. This time — not so much. BUT, to be fair, I wasn’t thrilled with what we ordered. We started with a seafood soup, which was great: big shrimp, squid, crackly rice and a lovely, flavorful broth. The beef chow fun with vegetables was average at best. Not much beef, and the only vegetables were sprouts (which is always in chow fun) and some unidentifiable green stalk — which was actually good. The fried tofu stuffed with shrimp sounded good, but wasn’t — maybe cause it wasn’t stuffed with anything! There was one lone, small, dried shrimp on top, and the tofu itself was flavorless.This place is busy. Many Asian patrons. The prices are good, and the service, swift. I will return the next time we visit — but I’m revamping our order!

  I’m not sure what I ordered…. A family style restaurant that works better to get the food to go. At least for me it does. A very large menu that consists of plenty of dishes that are unfamiliar. Naturally there are plates that might not be up to your expectations. However, the dishes that good, are usually on the excellent side.

  If you are throwing a party and are looking for a lot of cheap, great-tasting, Sam Woo is your answer. It’s especially quick to order and pick up the food.
