Good and bad- the food was generally good here. The sushi was fresh and they have a wide variety of sushi, sashimi and cooked entrees. It was difficult choosing from the many offerings. They run a lot of promotions through different channels (print, Foursquare, etc) so there are deals to be had. Downside is definitely the service. It really is chaotic and happens at their convenience, not yours. We started with some gyoza. That took about twenty minutes. I ended up ordering the Yama sushi meal which is like 7 courses. 4 of these courses arrived all at once! One of those was delivered to the other end of the table and I didn’t even realize it was meant for me until after the meal. I had to twice ask them to not bring everything at once and let me enjoy my meal. I did enjoy my meal but not thanks to all the chaos. Be prepared.
Excellent Sushi. I live near this sushi restaurant and have been very pleased by the quality of their fish and sushi chefs. I have seen big improvements to their service in the past year and their reemphasis on the customer experience. I really recommend that you get more than rolls at this restaurant. Although they rolls very well (in my opinion), they are best at sushi, sashimi and raw fish creations. To really suggest you sit at the bar and ask the sushi chef to do omakase style and he will bring you out his personal selections until you say stop. If you liked cooked food, then I suggest you get their steam yellow tail collar with miso and sake broth! YUMMYYY
Best Sushi Place. This is one of the best sushi restaurants I’ve been at. I do not understand why people are saying they have slow service. I’ve been there about 10 times and I never had bad service. The food I get here seem to be all in great quality. Their yellow-tail cappacio and crazy yama are one of my favorite dishes they serve. I highly recommend going to this restaurant. The view on the patio is amazing and very delightful.
Very poor service, even during slow periods. Food OK but a bit expensive for what you get.
Simply amazing. I’ve been to Yama Sushi a couple times already and I absolutely loved each single visit. When you go, try asking for an outdoor seat to get a great view of the beautiful lake. I think what makes this place unique is the awesome view, but the sushi was also quite memorable. The fish was fresh and delicious. My favorite was probably the yellowtail capaccio which is a thinly sliced yellow tail w jalapeno nd mustard dressing. My family and I also tried the samurai roll, ninja roll, tatlaki roll, yellow tail kama, ahi spincach mahalo, etc.. The variety of dishes that they have is pretty great and each one was delicious. One of the best if not THE best sushi place i’ve ever eaten at. Take a visit! I’m sure you won’t regret it. The waitresses/sushi cooks are also so super nice and responsive.
The people who serve us and the fabulous food they prepare are what bring us back regularly! Additionally the atmosphere is fabulous on Lake Mission Viejo!
I LOVE YAMA SUSHI. Two months ago I went to Yama Sushi on the Lake for the first time with my brother and girlfriend and we had a GREAT experience. So, we came back a few more times. Definitely one of our favorite restaurants now. We’ve tried many different varieties of foods on the menu but I personally recommend trying any of the YAMA CREATIONS especially the yellowtail carpaccio. The yellowtail carpaccio has delicious seasoning and you can decide whether to wrap the yellowtail with white onion and jalapenos. If you really like spicy food there is dots of hot sauce on the side of the plate. Whenever I go with friends and family we always order one YAMA CREATION, one cooked roll and one sushi roll. Ones that stood out were the samurai roll and mission viejo roll. The service is great. The waitresses were very nice and the owner is a kid man. We got the pleasure of talking to him because my parents wanted to try the seven sake shots. I had a sip of some. There is this milky looking one (not clear) which i thought was pretty good. The owner seems to be working very hard. He plans several events a month. Sushi Making Class (one day) for kids and Sake Course Dinners. and also he is constantly trying to improve his menu. He told us that if you order something unique on his menu, the next time we come it might look and taste different. Lastly, the restaurant is on the lake!!! if you go for lunch there is a beautiful view of the lake and the patio is set up very hip and relaxing. I definitely recommend people coming and trying. It is one of the few sushi places that i loved. and at the very least you get to have a nice view and good service if for some reason you do not like the food. I recommend going with a medium sized group so you can try more stuff on the menu. I don’t know why some people made bad comments. I think it is because they only came for the recession tuesday $1 sushi and that does not really show the quality of the restaurant. Finally the quality of food and service and location matches the price. Not too pricey for a sushi restaurant but it is a sushi restaurant.
