This is my favorite place to eat in Modesto, because I am a late-night diner and prefer organic, vegan food whenever I eat. I also like the people that own the restaurant and their staff. The restaurant was featured in Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, so I am not the only person that has discovered it.There is no other place in town to get organic vegan food that also closes at midnight, 4 days a week, and 10 PM on Thursdays. The menu is geared toward omnivores, vegetarians, and vegans equally, and the menu includes wine and beer as well. All the food is prepared there, except the baked bread, which is made by a local bakery. Very few places in Modesto have the same kind of food choices available to me and none of those few are open that late.It is a very small, family owned business – literally a mom and pop restaurant. Tyrone Bauer introduces himself to anyone he hasn’t seen in his restaurant before. Anytime I have had the smallest issue, he has more than taken care of it. His wife is a delightful, lovely woman that could be the person to take your order and bring you your food. The servers and kitchen staff are all very friendly. No complaints after eating here since Fall of 2014. This is where I take my out of town friends that visit, and where I socialize with my local friends.
Slide Assortment. The slider assortment with garlic and lemon aioli, Gorgonzola and Portuguese style beef was brilliant. A great place to meet friends.
We stopped in and each ate a vegetarian option from the vegan/vegetarian menu. Carefully crafted and delicious, we both our enjoyed our meals. Sincere staff and a pleasant environment, I would certainlyrecommend this place to travelers. A little hard to find, don’t give up!
Great food and great atmosphere. The eclectic decor and personable chef make it the perfect hole-in-the-wall place to eat. Despite common thought, it is not affiliated with Viera’s bar, the door is left open so the businesses can benefit from eachother. The chef is self taught and extremely talented. His menu reflects different styles of cuisine and flavors that hit any craving spot. My family frequents Bauer’s 66 1/2 and thinks it’s the only decent place worth eating in the valley!
Two Thumbs Down!. It was a Saturday night and my friends and I were hanging out at Vierras when they decided to walk ten steps towards the back of the bar and into Bauers for a meal. It was 1:30am and I thought it was amazing that there was a kitchen back there, I thought to myself, this could easily become favorite place to eat. It was my first time going to Bauers and sadly my last. There was four of us, two friends, my husband, and I. We placed our orders and received four glasses of water. While waiting for our food and chatting about the tap water we were served, and how Bauers should at the very least place a Brita filter on their faucet, I noticed an ant floating in my glass of water. Yes, an ant. I thought that was pretty disgusting and hoped the food would give me a reason to go back to Bauers. Forty minutes later our friend gets his nachos and our other friend gets his philly cheese. My husband and I wait for our food but when our friends are done eating we decided it was probably best to leave Bauers and never return.
