  BBQ Kalbi (Korean/Mexican Fusion). Fusion trucks are a dime a dozen in San Jose. Most are overrated, overpriced, and adored for mysterious reasons. BBQ Kalbi is one of those few that manage to fly under the radar, and is better for it (I doubt management appreciates the underdog tag when bills have to be paid, though). Unlike MoGo BBQ and Seoul on Wheels, trucks known for their toppings, sauces, and tortillas, BBQ Kalbi focuses on cooking quality meat. The Korean BBQ Beef and Spicy Pork, in particular, are on par with some average brick and mortar establishments’ versions, yet cost half as much. Innovative specials like the Bibimbop Fried Rice and Kimchee Quesadilla are also hits, drawing cult-like followings at various festivals. Still, the tacos containing the aforementioned meats are clearly the headline dishes. Dozens of patrons crouch over these hungrily each night, and for good reason – they’re darn delicious. Each taco features far fewer annoying toppings than those from other trucks (yes MoGo, no coleslaw), an arrangement that highlights the meat and savory marinades over frills and sauces.Rating: 6.4/10 tasteperiod.blogspot.com
