You know how college towns have that one street which has got all the restaurants and bars an hours drive from anywhere? Well Castro street is like an upscale, diverse and urbanized version of that. Among the several options there, Eureka! is one of the more conventional American Pub ones. With large tables and comfortable seating its a nice place for a long solid+liquid weekend lunch with a bunch of friends. So that’s what I went for.The menu cards are huge but the menu isn’t too varied. Your standard pub snacks, burgers and sandwiches. We had the mac and cheese balls which are about enough for 2 people as a nibble, taste good but the portion’s small. I had a couple of mimosas which are pretty good for 5 bucks a pop on a Sunday. The Turkey burger was dry, under-seasoned and had way too little salsa for something in California. The fries with the sandwiches were crisp, thin and long but cold. Somewhere enroute to urban fanciness, lost is the goodness of the simplicity of American food, which seems to be part of the brand’s image. The servers were polite, a tad confused and hard to get the attention of. But weekends are busy and what else are you going to do but wait, when the sun’s scorching and the streets are full? I’d recommend going in for drinks and such, food, maybe not so much. potsoup.wordpress.com
