Good Food – Terrible Service. Food was great but get it to go… Service was ridiculously slow. Server asked us to wait after already sitting there for 10 minutes while she cleaned the table in front of us. Restaurant was not even 25% full… Um hello
Tastes Great. Every neighborhood needs a go-to sushi spot, somewhere you can rely upon time after time to deliver generous servings of pristine fish at a reasonable price in a comfortable environment. When we lived on the Upper West Side, that spot became Momoya Sushi NYC, on Amsterdam Avenue near 80th Street, which opened in the fall of 2007. We loved the look of the place, we knew we could count on the Chirashi to satisfy our periodic sushi cravings, and we were confident that, if necessary, we could order deeper into the menu without disappointment. It had been a couple of years since our last visit to Momoya Sushi when we found ourselves needing dinner last weekend in the old neighborhood, and so decided to pop in and see how the things we’re holding up. Much to our delight, the answer was: very well indeed. Tried it based on it’s % rating. Restaurant not much to look at but the food was excellent. Ordered take-out. Will definitely go back and try it in house. I also thought the price was reasonable for the amount of food.
Good First Attempt. Sat at the bar and had a Momoya Roll, and another roll with fresh crab and avocado. Crab was excellent. Momoya roll had great fresh tempura shrimp in the center and a selection of fish on top. Fish was a little cold, which impaired the flavor I felt. Will have to try again.
Do we have a waitress?. I can honestly say we really enjoyed the food here. Especially since they messed up our order TWICE. Our extremely unfriendly, unpleasant, non-existent waitress somehow misinterpreted the tick marks on our sushi checklist TWICE. Which was ok because we weren’t in a hurry and we got 2 free rolls, one being lobster. The rolls were large and interesting and the fish was good quality. I think when it comes to sushi the fish is more important then the server. However I think our server’s inattentiveness was extremely irresponsible since we had an individual with food allergies in our party. If you have a shellfish allergy, make a clear. more then once. What a seriously unsafe thing to be so flippant about. I said I liked this place because of the food, it was so good it helped us overlook the fact that we were not seated, not watered, not actually attended to, and then the waitress looked like we were annoying her when she got our order (finally). Oh, and we never spoke to her again, she just kept walking by us. Wish I could remember her name, but you’ll know if you have the honor. Hopefully it’s just her and not the entire waitstaff. All and all I think we’ll brave the service again for the food and hope it’s better. But let me just say once again, it was really horrible service.
Really BIG rolls…good but pricy- and the service is unimpressive.
