I’ve been to shell shocked more than once to give it a fair review. They have taken over the once was home of Honeycreek. They specialize in fresh oysters and seafood and so far from what I’ve had raw was and has been fresh. They do happy hour every day even weekends, twice a day from 430-630 and 930 to closing. Their drinks are creative and good. Now for the food.Their food is good, but what I don’t like is that most of their fried items taste the same. At first I thought they are reusing their old frying oil, but it appears they use the same seasoning which taste like five spice. So if you are eating truffle fries for appetizer and then getting a something fried for your main meal you don’t get that satisfaction of eating something different cause it taste like your appetizer. I’m not a fan of the seasoning. It reminds me too much like I’m grabbing something from Quickly or other boba cafes that serve the fried items. I just want good ol’ salt and pepper and let the actual ingredients of the food speak for itself. Please. Their pan roasted mussels and the spicy basque seafood stew both have chorizo in it. The chorizo is so strong in both dishes that it over powers the flavor of the actual ingredient, which is sad cause it could be an awesome dish if they put in a milder sausage that won’t over power, but instead should compliment the dish and not take away from the seafood. For the rice bowls, my niece had their salmon poke, my husband had the crispy chicken and I had the fried soft shell crab. All their rice bowls came with a poached egg and honestly it didn’t need to be there. The combination with the egg didn’t match the dish. It was more like an after thought or a way for them to get rid of the eggs. I don’t know, but it didn’t need to be on the dish. My husband got sick of his crispy chicken since it tasted the same as the truffle fries and the fried oyster that came as a side on his clam chowder. The clam chowder we thought was really good! Thank goodness my soft shell crab wasn’t seasoned well enough for their seasoning to take over the crab. It was good. I liked it. The salmon poke it self was fresh and yummy. Staff and service is a bit slow. Other than that overall experience is good.-I’ve had way better hamachi shots-yellow tail jalapeno was good but could be better if the jalapenos were thinner slices-empire of the sun was ok, it was too creamy for me with the quail egg-samurai oysters were delish-pigs on a stick really yummy. I wish there was more than 2 sticks-crab & oysters were ok. It had way too much breading and oysters were cold-their crab fat wings are good-great clam chowderStill need to go back and try the shell shock redemption.
