Mothra Says…..A Must Visit. We had heard of this Italian deli (every town has to have one, or two) in the town of Napa about 15 miles south of St Helena, Ca. We were planning a picnic in the vineyards on a beautiful sunny NorCal day recently and wanted some sourdough, Italian meats, cheeses, and assorted nice items (to say the least). I know what you are thinking…..K ordered from the nice lady a large prosciutto, soprasatta, mozzarella with anchovies on soft sourdough. In addition, a 12 lb of marinated mushrooms, 1 lb of house made macaroni salad, made with herbs and chopped sweet pickle, grated very fine. Not overly made with mayonnaise. I had the prosciutto, mozzarella tomato and basil., basically a capresse with prosciutto, also on soft sourdough bread. Both sides of each sandwich were dressed with evoo and balsamic vinegar. OMG! Good. We bought two, one pound packages of fresh gnocchis: one basil and one pumpkin for the casa de Mothra. Also, we bought a package of fresh white anchovies in vinegar, not oil. By the way, they offer their house made Syrah at 4.00 a glass, Ok, next time, we will dine in to take advantage of the house wine; and not have to take that picnic basket with assorted bottles of wine to the vineyard in Napa Valley in 87 degree sunshine. Oh poor me. :0) Mothra says… THIS is a must. 4.0 of 5.0

Great Sandwiches, and value in Napa. Although I was only visiting, this was about my fav. stop for a grab-n-go while I was in Napa. Great food, helpful service, and trully an Italian style delicatessen. My sandwich was awesome (and $8, tax included!). The sides looked amazing, but I was only doing a quick grab and drive, so I didn’t grab any. There are tables inside and out for those who want to stick around for lunch or dinner. Great place to grab a basket, then head out to a vineyard for a picnic! AWESOME VALUE IN NAPA…now, just open one in Wichita, Kansas, and I’ll be really happy 🙂
Memories of Italian Deli’s of Childhood. My wife and i are spending time in the Napa area, we’ve had our fill of sit down restaurants, all good, but felt like a sandwich. Driving along, we passed one deli, and said if we don’t find anything else, we are turning around. Sure enough, nothing else was found, we pulled into the shopping mall, walking in, and the deli smell was just wonderful. Ordered soup, sandwich, pasta salad, and eggplant parm, great lunch. We arrived after the lunch rush, so very little wait. The sandwich a #8 of proscutto, cheese, and sundried tomato was excellant.
The only thing I don’t like is the long wait at lunch time.
3.5 Stars – This very popular deli is located in a strip mall off Trancas Street in north Napa. You pull a number for service. Wait is approx 15 to 20 mins at lunch rush both times I have been. They have made to order Italian sandwiches, a hot bar, soups, dessert bar, coffee and wine bar and a small Italian grocery. Food is high quality Italian deli food. Very good and recommend.
