ESTBAN RESTAURANT Some good, some a bit on the small sizebut worth a visitSome foodies had recommended Estban as a place for a different and unique experience for the Monterey Peninsula Bay area. So, we were up for a first visit. Since Estban is about being a small tapa place we should probably write this review is very small fonts (okay, maybe not.) On a mid-day week, we headed off to Estban which is in the Casa Munras Hotel in Monterey (very easy to find and extra easy to park). As we were enjoying a glass of Monterey area winewe ordered an appetizer of Fresh Grilled Pita with sides of Olive Tapenade, Garlic Hummus and Olive Oil with Balsamic quite flavorsome with just enough pita. It was a good sampling for each of the items; its definitely worth a try. Our main courses consisted of Prawns a la Plancha (accompanied with harissa/romesco, almond and mint), we added Monterey Calamari supported with lemon, chili flakes and garlic; and, Pulpa Confit basically octopus with cherry tomatoes, garlic and potatoes). These dishes were unique and yummy. The negative was the pricing for the size of the tapas perhaps a bit too small. We werent expecting a massive size portion, but these were just a slightly undersized. On the Tommy B Restaurant Rating Scale from A to F Estban gets a responsible B . But we would return for some of their other offerings.
I love this place. Great atmosphere and varied menu. Good for smaller groups. Staff are wonderful and chef is outstanding. Nice outdoor seating area. Full bar, but beer menu is limited. Great place for people to meet after work.And if you’re a tourist tired of tourist trap food, come here.
