Great place. We were in town for the NPS graduation in June, and we were able to call in 45 minutes ahead of time to get a table for 7. They pride themselves on their steaks, and they do a great job with them. Our table had the prime rib, New York, filet, Cowboy ribeye and the t-bone. Once the steaks came out I don’t think a word was said until it was time to order dinner.
Excellent dinner! Jun is an outstanding waiter!
The Prime Rib melted in our mouths. Excellent service as well.
If you like steaks, you’ll love the Whaling Station. Its that simple, this restaurant has made lasted decades based on the fact that it serves the best steak in the County. Prime steaks the best of the best, the top 1% of all steaks.Their regular menu offers Prime steaks and seafood from about $22 to $40 and is well worth it, with large cuts of the finest steaks you’ll ever have. They also over a locals menu at just $20 which includes soup or artichoke, salad, entree and dessert. Entree choices include a sirloin steak, roasted chicken, sand dabs and a couple of others. YOU MUST ASK FOR THE LOCAL’S MENU if you want this option.. I also think they only offer it in the lounge,… not sure about that. Anyway it’s the best deal on the Peninsula.Yes the ambiance is wonderful, they have a very nice bar, service is as you expect at a fine restaurant…great. But the call to action is Prime steaks. me I’m not touristy guy I normally steer way from restaurants too close to places like Cannery Row or the Wharf, you know traffic, hurried service, ok food and no place to park…just not my thing. However, the Whaling Station has its own parking lot and is a block above the melee of the Cannery. It’s a popular restaurant but sized so you can almost always get in without a wait. Valet parking on the weekends and free parking any day. Open 7 days a week.
Local’s Menu a Great Deal. Anytime you get the best grade of steak at a a top restaurant as part of a 4 course meal for $20 that’s a good thing. My significant other had the roasted chicken which was great but I went for the top sirloin which was fantastic. Of course it would have been nice to have a larger cut, but quality is definitely more important than quantity. Roasted mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables, a Cesar salad prepared at the table no less and a simple dessert to end the meal. I must be in heaven. The restaurant is a block above hustle and bustle of Cannery Row and offers free parking (valet on the weekends) Service was refreshingly reserved which I like not the normal hey dude hows it going I expect in a high traffic location. It was all very nice and I’ll definitely keep it on my list.
