Had a pretty juicy burger here and it was yum. The server didn’t ask how I wanted it prepared (I’m a medium rare type of burger eater), but it was tender enough for me. Cajun garlic fries were awesome. The decor is adorable.
Good smoked items, decent menu, OK bar, but you had better like dogs, loud TVs, and sports. I have very mixed feelings about the South Park Abbey. Its location has a long history of floundering and failed businesses. The SPA has done much better than most of its predecessors, but it generally caters to a young crowed that is into professional sports, often loudly so.The owner has done a good job of learning how to smoke meats – He had a custom smoker fabricated for the restaurant. The menu has some very tasty items, and changes fairly often. Fine selection of beers. The restaurant is very tolerant of people bringing in pet dogs – The law prohibits probing dog owners for specifics, but it is blatantly obvious that most of the animals allowed in the restaurant are not bona fide service animals. I have seen dogs off leash, and dogs on the bar.The atmosphere often suffers for one or more reasons if you are looking for a place to enjoy a meal: The front windows and back door are often left open to allow a cool (or cold) breeze to blow through. Lighting is dim but has been improved recently. The place is LOUD because the juke box or TV sets are turned up to high volume, which makes customers in turn have to shout at each other in order to carry a conversation. It can get very crowded and rowdy during major sporting events, or even on an ordinary Friday or Saturday evening. There is a trivia contest one night per week – That covers such a broad range of subjects the only way to win is to collaborate with people who have very different knowledge bases than you probably do.The bartenders often serve people who are visibly intoxicated, so there are issues with drunk patrons who may act too familiar, or talk way louder than necessary, or become defensive at the slightest criticism, or repeat themselves ad nauseum, or any of the other unpleasant things that drunk people do.I don’t plan to go there for a long time.
Good beer, good live music, and good veggie burgers.
Don’t listen to reviews before June 2010, this place is under new management and is called The South Park Abbey Bar & Grill. The food is great, the selection of micro and craft brews is killer, and the hospitality is top notch. You won’t be disappointed!
Awesome wedge salad!. I really didn’t love this place the first time I ate there, but it’s so close, we went back and gave it another try. Totally worth it! The wedge salad makes appearances in my dreams, and the fish and chips are super yummy! It’s a bit loud for dinner, but if you like a live jazz band, you won’t care!
