All I can say is that I can’t wait to go back. This is the place all the gastropubs over in the gas lamp wish they were. Food was amazing and sophisticated – try the brussell sprouts (served on a wood slab – charred with slivers of delicious parmesan), bacon wrapped dates (with goat cheese dipping sauce), even the spinach salad (with currents) and rosemary chicken was special. Highly recommended. Great service too and they take reservations.

Went Once, had to Leave. Met my sister and her husband at the West Coast Tavern for a pre-show dinner. It was a wonderful San Diego evening. We were seated just inside the huge glass door where we could watch the action up and down University. Our waiters (believe me the wait team works together) were great. We had orderd the chicken wings and the shrimp and we all started to dig in the gusto. My brother in law suddenly got dizzy, and woozy. He kept putting his head down. The staff immediately responded bringing water, offering assistance. My sister and I wolfed down the appetizers and reluctantly left. We are so greatly looking forward to returning and enjoying the West Coast Tavern experience.

Horrible Service. I went to this pub with a group of six, three of which were from San Diego and frequented this pub. I ordered my drink and showed the server my drivers license. The server said she could not serve me because I did not have my passport! (I was visiting from Canada) I told the server I had at least 3 more pieces of ID on me, but she still refused. I was at a pub a block down a few hours before going to West Coast Tavern and had no difficulties ordering a drink there. The Canadian and American government even encourage citizens not to bring their passports to bars! Absolutely ridiculous!

Old Theater, New Food. The concept of a restaurant in an old theater very cool. It’s redesign is retro and modern, with just about the largest project television by the bar you’ll ever see. The food is excellent and adventurous, and there is a full stock of wine and beer. The 3 of us tried the spicy mussels, the duck and dates. All were unique twists using local vegetables including black carrots and purple sweet potatoes. A welcome addition to North Park.

This place is awesome! The atmosphere and quality are exactly what north park wants to become… Nice enough for the Gaslamp while retaining all the culture and character. Great bartenders, delicious food, and don’t forget about the movie theater showing all of your favorite classics.
