Great authentic Ethiopian food. I’ve been told Oakland is the place to go for Ethiopian food, so I had to find out for myself (now that I am an Oakland resident). Cafe Romanat was first on the list, and it was a great experience. I had only had Ethiopian food once before, so eating without utensils is a newer thing to me. But Cafe Romanat made it a pleasant transition — our server was very friendly and attentive, the prices are good and the food was delicious. My wife and I split a veggie combo (and she got gluten-free injera), and it was very filling. The one downside with getting a huge platter of food with injera underneath is that it gets soggy, but that wasn’t anything specific to this place. I’d go back again, and maybe try a different entree.
