The atmosphere is awesome and the food matches it! We had surf and turf with crab cakes for $40 and it was a ton of food and delicious!

Love To Locals. After a hike on the beach in OB waiting for the big storm to hit we were heading to our regular spot, the fresh seafood hole-in-the-wall. When we had to go right instead of left. Which lead us to the Red Marlin. Got a great parking spot and went in. The decor has a super modern marina feel, wearing your casual weekend attire was easily received. Fab view from anywhere in the place. We were there for a late Saturday lunch but you can see that this place MUST get rockin’! There are seat galore, At the Bar, Indoor and Outdoor Lounge areas as well as many seats for diners. The lunch menu was simple and not as many seafood dishes as you might think. Well prepared, fresh, hot, and delivered in a timely manner. We had the Ahi sandwich with cucumber salad and chicken quesadilla. Glass of Pino Gris and a couple beers. Water and bread were served up strait away. The reason for my title, while chatting with server we of coursed let her know we were locals. She then let us know of a few ways Red Marlin loves the locals. The greatest was a the signed managers business card with a 20% off entire bill enticement for our return. WOW what a surprise. They also cater to the boat owners of the marina. Smart. We were not there at happy hour, but my general opinion it is a little early 3-5. But may be well worth getting half off appetizers and some less expensive drinks at such a well located restaurant. No photos of the food but I will be posting the view shots I took.

Sometimes, it’s rather refreshing not to have to scream over a business lunch to have a conversation. Sometimes, other elements beyond gastro-creativity can compel me to come back to any given restaurant. The view is wonderful. The Red Marlin’s tucked away and not too conveniently visible to SD’s gawking, camera-clicking throng of tourists. The menu’s short and sweet, eliminating the temptation to waste 20 minutes from having far toooo many choices. The decor was tasteful and understated. The staff was quite attentive and courteous. Although it was obvious our young waiter was relatively new to serving, I found his nervousness mildly endearing. We were unrushed and felt pleasantly at home in this peaceful little restaurant. Sometimes, there IS beauty in simplicity. I’ll definitely be back.

Terrible service! Bad experience, severely understaffed. We waited for over an hour for our food. There were only four other tables in the restuarant. Our order was given to a table that just walked in. After waiting for all that time the server told us that they had ran out of the scallops that we ordered. All dishes came out wrong. There was not on thing done right. We left and had to eat at Mc Donalds. Do even think about going here with kids!

Interesting reviews, not so interesting food.. The food is ok if you like the same specials over and over again as well as soup of the week. I had last been their about a year ago they were new and fresh trying work out the kinks after re-opening with a new GM, menus and overall rennovation. How far they have fallen, it seems the managers are gone as well as any inference that they are still trying to make this a great seafood restaurant. The food was ok, and for the price ok is just not going to cut it, there is nothing cutting edge or even revolutionary to be able to justify the prices, well it is a Hyatt. What actually caught my eye here though was one of the great reviews they were given on this site is from one of their own managers. I’m not one to harp or belittle anyone but come on if you have to have your own employees go out and write reviews for you obviously you’re doing something wrong. Trust me if you’re staying hereyou can take a 10-15 minute cab ride and find amazing food, reasonable prices and fantastice ambiance in downtown or La Jolla.

Good Food!. Red Marlin is a bit pricey as one might expect of a hotel/resort restaurant which charges a premium, but I was pleasantly surprised with both the quality of the service and food when dining recently for breakfast and dinner. For breakfast I tried the Petite Filet and Eggs and was impressed with the delicate flavor of the accompanying Hollandaise Sauce. For dinner I tried the soup of the day which was a Squash soup which turned out amazing. The main consisted of the Crispy Ahi Tuna wrapped in Brick Pastry with Buckwheat Soba stir fry, As with breakfast, everything for dinner was prepared perfectly with subtle, understated flavors throughout. Recommended for an evening out or even dinner with the family!

Don’t do this restaurant for lunch. The menu is over priced sandwiches. The server was unfamiliar with the menu and served incorrect drinks, partial platters and did not serve the meal all together. She was not around to fix things. God bless the bus boy. Would definately recommend this place for dinner. Never again for Sunday lunch.
