I normally like the service and the food in this restaurant. But not on my recent visit, December 22nd , check 927 at 8:27 p,m. The food was good, but cold. The sitting outside was very cold, the heaters were not on high enough that they did not warm up the table were we were sitting. Despite asking the waiter a couple of times to turn it up higher, he seemed annoyed and did not do it. We were cold and our food was cold in minutes. The waiter served cold coffee, we asked him to bring more coffee and by the time he came back we were done with our food. He served the coffee but did not bring the creamer, I asked him to bring creamer and he never did. When we ordered he seem annoyed and short when answering our questions regarding the menu, he kept insisting that if we order main dishes the kids would eat for free from the kids menu, we told him we were not interested in ordering main dishes just to have the kids eat for free, but h still insisted. When we ordered, he pointed out that none of the kids meals would be for free, but we already knew that. He forgot several things, such as one of the meals, and a side order of tortillas. The waiter’s name is FRANCO, avoid this waiter, he should not be working as a waiter or any other establishment in customer service. The only time he made any conversation was when he brought the check, I did not leave him a tip. We were there on a very slow night, I can’t imagine what would it be like on a busy night.

Disappointing. Less than ordinary. Bland, tasteless rellenos; machaca was bland also. Margaritas served in a chimney glass? Slow, inattentive service–even on a slow weekday morning. Not a good choice.

Great Atmosphere!. I love the outdoor seating and the atmosphere here. The band playing makes the dining experience fun. Old Town is one of my favorite stops in San Diego. The food is good and the sangria is amazing! foodartandculture.com

Bogus % of likes. I find it hard to believe that this place has such a high percentage of likes. something is amiss. It is absolutely horrible. Previous owners had an outstanding restaurant in this location.24 Jun, 2012Where’s the Cilantro and Jalepenos. Horrible Food and Service.. There was no cheese.. No cheese dip, No cheese sauce. Raw Tortillas. No cilantro in pico de gallo. Uncooked roasted jalepeno peppers. No flavor in the beans and rice. the only thing that was decent were the drinks and I guess if you drink enough the food will not matter.15 years loyalty but they changed hands. Wow, how disappointing to lose a favorite

Average Food – Poor Service. We were drawn to Old Town due to the Concierge at our hotel informing us of the great Mexican Food. We landed upon Casa De Reyes based on previous reviewers and figured we would give it a shot. The restaurant environment felt very authentic to a Mexican theme, but the service was horrible. Upon being seated we were quickly served chips/salsa, but were not provided a drink menu or waters for 5-7 minutes. Additionally, it took an additional 5 minutes for our drinks to be delivered to our table! It wouldn’t have been a problem if we all weren’t starving and instantly starting scarfing down the spicy chips/salsa. After waiting 10-15 minutes for the drinks, another server came around to take our food order. After we waiting around for the food, our original server said that she was going on break and that a third server would be taking over our table. The food did not taste authentic to Mexico and it was very over-priced. I would not recommend going to this restaurant because of the poor attitudes from the servers, crappy location in Old Town (which is a big joke btw) and high prices for cheap Mexican food.

Where is the flavor?. Everything I’ve had here has been flat, underseasoned and bland. Carne asada is bland and too chewy for my liking. Tortillas are served raw. As mentioned before, even their rice and beans are flavorless. Service lacked. Drink refills were hard to come by. The only plus is the fun ambiance. But the food just doesn’t cut it.Skip it.

Awesome Outdoor Seating, Good for Groups. We went to Casa De Reyes for my partner’s 50th birthday. We are not from SD, so we took the recommendation of a friend. The restaurant is in the heart of Old Town and definitely is touristy. They have live music and mariachis wandering the patio (I know this sounds a bit annoying, but it was actually fine). There are lots of shops bordering the restaurant and even a little stage where the band played music while we were waiting to be seated. The restaurant is completely open air.We had a big group and 4 small kids. The staff was terrific and very accommodating. The food was also really good. I had pork tamales, which I’ve had at lots of different Mexican restaurants. These were unique in that they had some sort of charred green sauce covering them. It was smoky and delicious. Also the chips and salsa were yummy. I would say that while the food was good and we all enjoyed our meals, the atmosphere is really what’s unusual about the place. If you’re from out of town and you want a good Mexican restaurant in Old Town, this is a great pick.
