The food was really good. Check out the menu – it’s an interesting offering. There were a dozen of us and we ordered a lot of different meals. Everyone enjoyed their food.

Just a stroll up San Diego Avenue from the old town you will come across El Agave – one of the more remarkable interior fit outs for a restaurant that I have come across.First, an honourable mention must go to the interior of this establishment, and the wonderment of colourful tequila bottles littered all over the walls. I’m not sure what the collective noun for tequila bottles is, but their contribution to this setting is really integral to the atmosphere of this place. For an appetiser we ordered the Quesadillas del Publo, served with different fillings from peppers, mushrooms, to chicken. For mains we firstly went for the Trilogia de Moles – stuffed chicken breast essentially served with three different spiced toppings with fresh tortilla and rice. This was visually spectacular and colourful. The chicken itself was good, but the flavours varied depending on which part of the dish we were consuming. Then we had the Tacos de Camaron, aka ‘shrimp tacos’. The two jumbo shrimps were substantial, fresh, well marinated with flavour, and seemed to work well in combination with the other taco fillings. This was washed down with some Mexican beer and appropriate amounts tequila cocktails. While the service was slow on the night and a little overpriced, overall this was an enjoyable experience in a memorable restaurant and setting.

For starters the prices were far more than expected! The food was not very good! The menu is in english but i couldn’t understand a tenth of it so if you aren’t fluent in high end dining lingo don’t try! It was a very beautiful place and a great atmosphere but i was very disappointed!

I just loved this place. Pity I’ll have to wait so long to go back – there’s just nothing like this in Australia. Thank you to my tour guide for the recommendation!Amazing margharitas with so many beautiful tequilas. The ‘museum’ is fascinating to browse and discover all of the different bottles. The staff were lovely and very happy to help with menu choices and suggestions. And the food was amazing. Burritos, ceviche, mole, wow. Glad I got to take friends back for another great meal before coming home.
