LOVE La Piata! Every time we come to San Diego on vacation we make it a priority to stop there after we visit the Mormon Battalion Museum up the street. The atmosphere is fun and festive. They bring you chips and salsa and a giant crunchy tortilla with melted cheese on it when you are first seated (both super yummy!). Service is super quick, our waitresses have always super nice and personable and the portions are plenty big…. Even the kids meals are big enough for my littles to share. Totally recommend!
Bad food, margaritas and it’s dirty!
Ok… I’m from Texas. … and I LOVE TEX MEX! We heard great things about this place. … it is where the locals eat. While the food isn’t as spicy as I am used to. ..I was very pleased with the Chili Relleno and the shredded Beef Taco Combo.
Quaint place. In addition to the chips and salsa, the waitress brought us a fried tortilla with melted cheese on it. It was fabulous. Our meal was really yummy and everyone left satisfied. Our waitress was very personable and the food came out quickly. I would recommend this place if you’re in the area.
Sad Birthday Party. I reserved a table in the back patio room for my dad’s birthday. Unfortunately I think they forgot about our party of 11 because they never came back to ask for a second round of drinks, never offered any water (we were eating the salsa and chips for pete’s sake-which they never came back to offer to refill), forgot my dinner and I had to get up and go find a server to have it brought to the table, and worst was not bringing forks/spoons so that we could eat the cake (that they did very graciously let us bring in for the special occasion). It was a good thing I brought plates with us b/c we would probably have had to eat out of our hands:)After 5 minutes of waiting for silverware (AFTER my dad had cut the cake and served it to 11 people) I got up and wandered to find a server. I told her the again and went to the kitchen door to ask again for utensils to eat the birthday cake. 10 minutes of waiting to eat the cake in front of the ‘birthday boy’. So embarrassing. I’ve not mentioned the food yet…the quesadillas and enchiladas came with non- melted cheese– just piles of grated cheese inside and the tortillas could have been from Vons. SO disappointing and embarrassing, considering I’d booked the reservation and even met the owner while doing so.Please, please, if you want any semblance of attentive service, choose another restaurant.
The service was friendly and prompt. The serving size huge for a very reasonable price. I enjoyed the ambiance and would recommemd to my friends.
Pretty good. The chips were TERRIBLE. They were break your teeth crunchy and over fried. Therefore, I was very skeptical of the food before it even came out. Thankfully, my carnitas verde was very very good. The beans (my litmus test for Mexican) were delicious. Probably not the best or most authentic in Old Town, but it was still good. The decor & staff costumes were pretty cheesy and took away from the experience.
