I went to Penfolds Cafe & Bakery because so many good people could not say enough good things about the place. Always the curiosity of what if this place is a good place? 4 Stars among reviewers is not a shabby score, and look at the size of some of those bakery items! Big generous portions to be sure! I said to my tribe, lets just concentrate on the Bakery side of this place. Arrive early enough to guarantee freshness and availability, what do you say? A unison yes, and we drove from Menifee, about 15 minutes drive, and I bought a few bakery items, to the tune of almost $20. Another family member spent another $20? Between the both of us, and what was on display at the time, we pretty much picked what was available. Went back home, made gourmet coffee, and proceeded to try the goodies, which were no good. No skills, mediocre quality, big does not count when finesse is not present, so Penfold bakery side turned out to be, besides the unhealthy aspects of a huge roll covered with melted sugar, and some overly expensive other items, a not so great bakery. Dry, poorly prepared by whomever is in charge of baking. Very seldom we throw purchased bakery items away, but this time we did it, for the other option was to consume something that was clearly disappointing. I am assuming the food is a little better? Lets hope so, in the very remote case someday we venture in. Not all bakeries are created equal, thats for sure! 2 Stars.

We decided to have diner food for breakfast so we gave this place a try. The menu was huge. It went on and on. I was happy that it also served dinner entrees during breakfast time.Cream of chicken noodle soup: It sounded strange but I think it was quite good.Waffle combo with sausages and bacon: it was ok.Chicken fried steak: The portion was huge and it was well seasoned. For diner food, I thought it was pretty good.Service: good. Coffee was refilled. The waitress checked on our table. Also, I ordered brown gravy on my mashed potatoes and country gravy on the steak. Initially, the dish came with country gravy only. The server gladly exchanged it for me. Price: inexpensive and generous portion.

First impression and it will be the last. So we were very excited to come here by all that have recommended Penfold’s. First impressions always keep me coming back but this will be our the last. The hostess staff was inconsistent and lazy. We asked for first available and recieved a pager. The next group that arrived was asked the same thing and was seated right away. We asked why and they said they would seat us right away. The hostesses just stood at there station talking to each other without scanning the restaurant floor to see if tables were available. 4 tables opened up but took 5 minutes for the hostesses to start seating. There are people waiting in the cold to be seated and it took 15 more minutes before we got seated. We ordered drinks and recieved a very dirty glass with lipstick still on the cup. Our food order came out 15 minutes after we ordered. The food was okay nothing special. My home fries were slightly warm like they have been sitting. In the corner of the grill. The coffee was coffee. They had items on the menu that they did not have the ability to serve.Substandard service.Food Okay.

  • Butter Please

Standard, pre-made, bland fare. Large portions don’t make up for lackluster food.

    Good food slow service

  • Alexandra Emsley

Captain Crunch encrusted French toast. Yes, yes please. Cinnamon buns the size of a car tire. Rice krispie treats the size of a belt buckle. Pretty much all you need to know. Come in hungry because they don’t do small servings.
