It is called Tio Chino now, apparently. We came here based on reviews and proximity to our hotel. I was not disappointed. The food was great. The salsa is quite spicy. The margarita was so-so. We arrived at 7:30 on a Saturday night and we were one of only 2 tables there. My husband was skeptical, but overall it wasn’t bad.

It’s now called Tio Chino, not Tio Carlos. Highly recommend this place!23 Mar, 2014Just went there tonight for the first time and LOVED it! It has a fun atmosphere with live music and delicious food. I ordered the short ribs and my husband got the beef fajitas – both delicious! The fried ice cream was amazing!

The Best Mexican Restaurant!!. The best Mexican food Restaurant in San Diego. The service is excellent. They make you feel, like you’re @ home. The food is just great…Home made style!!!!

This is the most delicious home made Mexican food of the area! the Puerto Nuevo style lobsters are a must, but moreover, the margaritas are the best in the world!!!!!

Surprisingly good Mexican food. You’d never expect much from Tio Carlos, a small restaurant upstairs in a motel. But the food is good – I especially love the Mexican-style shrimp cocktail, with lots of bay shrimp and avocado awash in fresh salsa. The service is attentive, the prices are very reasonable, and the margaritas are excellent.

Excellent. Not only was the food great, but the service was equally as good.
