Simply a great restaurant. Inventive treatments of classic Latin dishes often with a French twist. The quality, quantity and presentation make the prices here worthy of being called a bargain. For little more than you’ll pay at a Mexican chain restaurant you will get really excellent food here. They came to fame with their chilaquiles and it’s a good example of what they do well. The simple breakfast dish usually made from leftovers here is transformed into a first rate star.

I can’t speak for the food because we didn’t stick around to eat. As soon as we walked in the smell of raw sewage/farts hit us so hard. We asked to sit on the patio and it was closed. There is no way I could have eaten inside with the stench.

Their Chilaquiles are to die for! Super delicious and very different from other Mexican restaurants in Orange County and Santa Ana area.Special mention of the sauce alongside the dish- stands out completely!Oh and also the orange juice was super yum and sooo fresh!

Anepalco’s cafe Chapman location. We have eaten at the main st location three time’s is was a wonderful experience, well presented lots of flavor, so this time we went to the Chapman location on a Sunday.. The service was good in the beginning, when the food came the presentation was not as good as the one on main, from there it was down hill fast, the flavor was diluted on the red sauce for the HUEVOS RANCHEROS to the point you would swear it came from a can. The HUEVOS DIVORCIADOS the green sauce tasted like an overload of lime juice that ruined the Chili Verde, the red sauce was like a washed out chili Guajillo sauce with little or no flavor, .to finish this out I would compare the two like this, Main st location everything was executed with Love and perfection , the Chapman location was poorly executed all the way down. it took fifteen minutes to check out and when I asked to speak to the manager I was told she busy and we could not speak to her. whatever the problem was on Sunday 5/17/2015 needs to be fixed we will never step foot in the Chapman location again. Food starts with eyes, nose, tongue and than to the brain for a memorable experience the one on main will give you that. Sauce is everything in Mexican cooking without it you might as well eat at Taco Bell.

Creative French-Mex. Anepalco was one of my most anticipated meal of the year. After all, if they were to be able to do a dinner menu at the level that they do their chilaquiles in their hole-in-the-wall location near CHOC, I would most certainly make it one of my favorite places to dine. I might even consider taking a job at the UCI Medical center just for that.Unfortunately, this location delivered at food that was not bad, but far from excellent. I do give them points for having a very creative menu. Th first time I went, I had their braised short ribs. Although tender, it was so salty, it was practically inedible. Enchiladas were tepid on the inside and sauce was bland. Service was equally poor, and we waited at the door for 10 min before anyone came out to greet us. Then after taking our order and delivering the food, our waitress was nowhere to be found. But this was around the time they had first opened, so I was willing to give it another chance. The service issues disappeared, but food was just ok. Mojo de ajo huarache had very good shrimp, but the corn meal huarache was mealy as if not fully cooked. Ahi tuna tartare, although it looked good, had flavors that did not go well with the other ingredients. I am at a bit of a loss as to why all the food tasted so mediocre. Part of me is still in disbelief and want to go there to give it another try. I recommended the place to a friend around November 2013, and she was not impressed by the food at all. She was not from OC so she had no predisposition about Anepalco. To succeed, they have to have something other than just their chilaquiles to fall back on, especially for dinner service. foodporndining.com

Never Thought of Mexican/French Fusion. But I am glad someone did. The combination of the two cuisines worked really well. A friend and I going to the Ducks game split the edamame beans, and the Chilaquiles. Both were presented very well and tasted excellent. I had the Cielo, Mer Y Terre and my friend had the Callo de Hacha. The addition of risotto to my dish and polenta to the Call de Hacha were great ideas. The amount of sauces on both plates were perfect for the dish to be finished with nothing left behind. It was THAT good! I would return the next time I am on my way to a Ducks game.
