Southern food and BBQ is the focus here. BBQ always starts a big debate and everyone has an opinion. It is very hard to find BBQ like one finds in the South. I think they do a good job here. I do find myself gravitating to the other Southern classics though. I especially like their fried chicken. Moist on the inside with a shattering crunchy crust. YOu have to be patient for this dish as it takes time. I think it’s worth it. If you’re in a hurry then go with the sandwiches or sausages. I like them all. They also have a pretty good beer program here. I just wish they had a proper bar area instead of a few stools in the way of everything. On busy nights they have valet parking…a BBQ joint with valet parking. Oh well.
Years ago my family frequented the orange location because it was the only place to get good BBQ and I’m sure the BBQ is still good. That said, I took my girlfriend to get fried green tomatoes, which were greasy and mushy. I had the blackened catfish which was so damn salty that I almost sent it back, and my Cajun rice side dish was the same, way too salty! Maybe I got them on an off night but someone needs to tell the cooks that salt is a flavor enhancer and should be used sparingly, especially with big, bold southern flavors. Also, the worst pecan pie ever.
As close as you can get…. I got spoiled living in Memphis for 9 years, and being in close proximity to Neely’s Interstate BBQ…SoCal definitely lacks for decent BBQ joints, but J-Rebs is about as close to authentic Memphis BBQ as you can get around here. Highly recommended!
One of my favs!!! Fried pickles, nice smoked, pink, and tender baby-back ribs. Juicy, moist BBQ chicken… Spicy hot links… What’s not to love! All for around $30 for two. They have the best sweet tea that taste home-made and not from the fountain!
