Once in a long moon, I can safely say I have found a place worth it of its accolades. Patagonia Empanadas was a very nice revelation, and I can see why so many reviews were in their favor. First time ever, but wanting Empanadas, we followed the good advice, and arrived around 12 PM on a Tuesday. Met the owner and crew, at first glance they were busy. Empanadas are made to order, and I chose: 4 Beef, 4 Chicken, 4 Spinach, 2 Ham and Cheese, and 2 Shrimp from their World type. Besides the Empanadas I picked several pastries. The bill came to around $65.A member of our family purchased Empanadas and Pastries, as well, to the tune of almost $35. All to go, for it was imperative to beat the traffic on our way back home to Menifee, CA. Upon arriving, after a breezy ride back, it took no time to commence enjoying our purchase. Not one item was below very good, and that certainly brought a big smile to our faces. As good as it gets mostly, and truly worth the visit, in true contrast to the abundant disappointments, were good money was spent, only to discover too late how mediocre the food was. This is a renewal of my confidence in all the good reviews pertaining to Patagonia Empanadas. The owner is very personable, and obviously his standards surpasses expectations, and that is a good thing. In this particular case, we have been enjoying the goodies, and have plans to return. 4.5 Stars.

This tiny Argentine cafe is located across from the Orange mall, two doors to the left of TikiYaki, off Tustin Avenue. I guess they used to be in the back of a liquor store, but now they have their own little space. The young man who helped me said they just opened back in April, so not quite two months. Before that it used to be a crepe place. The place is tiny, with about 6 or 8 tables inside, and a few patio tables outside. The food is made to order, and we were told about 15 minutes for our empanadas to arrive. Karen and I split 5 empanadas, as we were told 2 empanadas were quite filing.#1 Beef: Ground beef, onions, peppers, hard boiled egg, green olives, and Argentine spices#2 Chicken: Ground chicken, onions, peppers, and Argentine spices#4 Ham and cheese: Ham, cheese, hard boiled egg#9 Arab / Fatayer: Ground beef, onions, red bell peppers, plum tomatoes, and simmer in lemon overnight#16 Sun-dried tomatoes; Tomoto, cheese, sundried tomatoe, basil, black olivesThe empanadas came out on a plate, with a serving of chimichurri sauce.. a must have sauce made of parsley, garlic, olive oil and spices. Most of the empanadas were stamped with the number for easy identification. The ham and cheese, and the Arab were not stamped. They were generous sized empanadas, and were baked, not fried. They were not greasy, and it wasn’t completely doughy.Karen and I really like the chicken . I also like the beef and the Arab. I was not too fond of the sun-dried tomatoes, probably because they use black olives. (I’m not a fan of black olives), and would have also preferred if they had used more basil. By the time I got to the ham and cheese, we were both too full to really appreciate the last empanada.I did end up taking 2 empanadas home (The chicken and the Arab) so Stephen could try. So seven empanadas and two drinks came to $24 before tip. I’d gladly come back to try the spicy empanadas, or even the steak. Sonia was eating the steak with onions, and it looked SO good!!Thumbs up to this mom n pop place. Call ahead if you’re in a hurry. I think that you can place your order on line. callmemochelle.com

Tucked in the back of a liquor store, this little deli is quickly becoming an Argentine ex-pat hangout. Empanadas are the main draw and they have a nice variety. But they also have classic sandwiches like the choripan (chorizo on a roll) plus pastas. It’s not long on looks but the food is tasty and the owners are very nice.
