Awesome Surprise. Was traveling in Palm Desert and a bartender gave me a rec to try this place. The food was excellent. The menu decidedly Austrian. I would highly rec this place. the ambiance was excellent and the food superb. The service was moderate at best, but it was busy. Also an amazing wine list. A full page dedicated to Austrian wines….best value for the buck…give em a try, even though your in Cali!
Lovely food and ambiance. 2013 – absolutely wonderful food. So much attention to detail both by the chef and the wait staff. Had the Lake Superior white fish on a ragu of crab, lobster, corn, peas, and other stuff – absolutely fantastic. Give it a try. I understand that it’s quite different this year (2013) from last year. This was my 2nd visit and I will return yet again.
Food Heaven. Dined at Johannes on a Saturday evening. I wasn’t overly impressed with the decor but once I started perusing the menu I was all about the food. I could literally have ordered one of everything, it all sounded amazing. Our server was very helpful and attentive, she was honest with her suggestions and items she liked. For starters we ordered the duck breast and tuna tartar and split a feature salad with arugula and plums. For mains we each ordered one of the features. The first was a petite filet with a large scallop with a mini lobster tail, that scallop was unbelievably good! The other feature was a Mexican sea bass with a lemon dill shrimp sauce, I thought I had died and gone to food heaven!! For desserts we shared the apple strudel and chocolate mousse.I can’t wait until I have the opportunity to try Johannes again.
Great!!!. I have had the pleasure of dining at Johannes Restaurant Palm Springs several times and have to say that the ambiance, the service and the food are great. I recently recommended it to a friend visiting from MO. He is the organizer of several dining groups there and he raved about this wonderful Palm Springs gem of a restaurant. Kudos to Chef/Owner and staff!
My favorite PS restaurant! It is everything PS should be, and is, on a good day. Hip, retro, great food, okay, so there is a little to much attitude, but once you leave, you will remember your meal. I am still salivating as I remember tasting a cold tomato soup with a touch of , yes, curry.
Ok….but nothing to get excited about. Food good, but not inspired or great. Decor was nice in the front dinning room, but the other half of the place leaves a lot to be desired. Wine list not bad. Give it 3 out of 5 stars for a grade.
