A local told us about Spencer’s, and how great it was. Can’t disagree! Great service that goes with the fantastic outside patio, well heated with propane heaters. We had the twin lobster tails, and they were really good. I started with corn bisque, and it was so tasty. Will definitely be back!

A Surprising Lunch at Spencer’s Restaurant at the MountainI must admit I was skeptical of booking a table at such a traditional, ‘clubby’, Palm Springs restaurant but the name Spencer’s is synonymous with Palm Springs’ classic style and its historically significant mid-century charm offers a stylish elegance and comfortable informality that apparently is not to be missed. Located in Old Palm Springs and situated at the foot of Mt. San Jacinto, and rated ‘readers choice’ by Desert Magazine for Breakfast, Outdoor Dining, and Romantic Dinner, the summer air-cooled, and winter propane-heated, patio is legendary with the stunning surroundings matched by great food and unobtrusive yet attentive service. Spencer’s also offers an extensive and surprisingly not California-focused wine list that won’t disappoint. I start with a robust lentil soup that seemed befitting of the chilly, lunch time air and follow with a beautiful Ahi Tuna Nicoise Salad, grilled to perfection. I could barely get through the large portion! John, feeling vegetarian, begins with a beautiful Beefsteak Tomato Tartare with shallots, tarragon, capers, ricotta and a lovely single parmesan crouton and moves to a wonderful Roasted Portobello Mushroom in a soy-ginger sauce and toasted sesame seeds nestled on some crisp garden vegetables. This was, perhaps our best meal in Palm Springs. followsummer.net

Dessert was good. The rest, not so much.. We ate here on 2-11-15. We had no reservations but were seated immediately. Unfortunately, our two-person table on the patio was ridiculously dark. If I hadn’t had my cellphone’s flashlight, I wouldn’t have been able to see enough to cut meat from bone. The fried oyster appetizer was under-seasoned and dripping with grease. The oysters themselves were plump and meaty, and they probably would have been great if they’d been prepared with more skill.I had the Dijon-crusted rack of lamb, cooked rare. It was all right, but not great. (I thought there was too much of a vinegar tang to the Dijon crust, which overpowered the lamb.) The gratinee potatoes that came with it were very greasy, perhaps from the cheese being over-heated. The green beans were crisp and acceptable. The chocolate pot de crme for dessert was excellent– Rich and with a strong chocolate flavor.Overall: The ambience is very pleasant, but perhaps more attention should be paid to making sure all tables have adequate lighting. The food seems to be hit or miss, which makes me leery of going back.

Simply the Best in Palm Springs. My wife and I have been coming to Spencers for years. We dine here on New Year’s eve as well. The menu offers both unique and traditional food. The presentation is eye catching and it is always delicious. Service is excellent. We love the atmosphere as well. Just go!

The calamari is awesome. Atmosphere is great.

Service and atmosphere, second to none. Probably the best atmosphere, service and food presentation we have had in a while. Patio is dog friendly. The servers look after your dog, as much as yourself. Lots of seating, both inside and outside. If your into it, you can watch tennis, while you dine. One of the best places we have tried in Palm Springs.

Nice Experience. Dined with a group the evening of 10/06, we all loved the al fresco atmosphere. Staff was professional. Calamari and was pleasantly sweet & spicy. Only complaint is drink prices, charged $8 for a Dewar’s & water, ouch!
