Went for a dinner, and had House Specialty Slow-Roasted Prime Rib (Petite Cut). It was quite nice (though next time I’d probably go for Medium instead of Medium Rare). Also, the portion is huge. Ambiance and service was top-notch. Reservation recommended.

HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. My husband and I have been driving past Sundance for the past 15 years, but for one reason or another, we have always chosen other restaurants. We were searching for a restaurant for our anniversary dinner, and wanted to go someplace we hadnt been before, so we made a reservation for an early Sunday dinner on our anniversary. We ended up arriving about 40 minutes early, and fully expected to wait in the bar, but were pleasantly surprised that they were able to seat us right away. Much to our dismay, they seated us at a small table for two, located in the intersection of the kitchen and the stairs leading from the entrance to that small dining area. My chair was literally inches from the stairs. In addition the condiment station was located directly above our table. Seconds after we were seated, a waitperson was reaching over my left shoulder for A-1 sauce as a near collision between a wait person exiting the kitchen and the hostess seating another party occurred. It was clear that the small table we were seated at was an afterthought and should never been located where it was.The nice gentleman who brought our water noticed that we were uncomfortable and said he would ask the hostess to seat us at another table. Since there seem to be no shortage of tables (at 5:30pm), we didnt think this would be an issue. The hostess came to our table to tell us she would Check to see if she should could try to move us. Needless to say she didnt return. I ended up going to the hostess station and after acknowledging that we were in fact early for our reservation, asked her if we waited, could we be seated at another table. She informed me that no, that was in fact where they were seating us for our 6pm reservation as well since they have to save the 4 tops for larger parties. I pointed out to her that there was a party of two in our area seated at a four top, and her response was They were seated before you. My response to her was, well, Now you have another table for two available. My husband I left and went down the street to Flemings Steakhouse, which was definitely more crowded than Sundance. Although we had no reservations, within minutes of our arrival, we were seated at a lovely table for two, and had a great meal with great service. We suspect the food at Sundance is wonderful, but well never know because well never be back.
Special Occasion Dinner. It was my mother’s 80th birthday so, despite having 3 vegans in the family, we all acceded to her wishes as Sundance has been her favorite restaurant for many yearsWe arrived and were sat on time. The booth was a little crowded for 6 so they offered to bring a chair. what I really love about the place is while they pack people in, I’ve never really been distracted by the presence of other parties. Sundance is very masculine with it’s woods, dark banquet booths and very low lighting. Our server was excellent. Everything arrived on a timely basis and he was extremely affable and friendly w/o being overly familiar. The food, as always, was superior. I had Prime Rib, the house specialty, and it was aged well and cooked to perfection. I also had the Lobster Bisque, the best made anywhere, and some mushroom poppers and crab cakes which made for a nice beginning course to the meal. They did the Happy Birthday thing. Mom was thrilled and everyone left stuffed yet happy. Sundance is pricey but well worth it as it’s a great special occasion place.
How does such a great steakhouse run out of bread at 8pm on a Sunday night? Especially after one of the waiters gracefully and simultaneously pours oil and vinegar in a porcelin bowl made in the USA (not in China). I am sure the food will be great but the meal is alredy soured.
