Great selection of fresh fish. Friendly service and all locations are great. Each spot has a little different atmosphere.

Trite corporate attempt. It was so loud, our party of 4 couldn’t understand each other multiple times at lunch. The waiter misunderstood 3 requests: he brought me Salmon instead of Snapper, more tea instead of water, and he brought my friend tomatoes instead of potatoes. The worst part was, the waiter insisted that I ordered Salmon until he discussed it with superiors. And this is in Palo Alto? The waiter then offered curt appologies and well wishes. I’ve been to the one in Foster City, too, and can attest that Fish Markets are just another corporate restaurant, like Mimi’s, Chilli’s, Eddie Papa’s and Marie Callendar’s, with focus on fish. Certainly nothing like Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle.

Stinky, not pretty but good food. This casual restaurant smells like the docks. If you are offended by fishy smells then you should avoid this place. The food, however, has been quite good and the smoked albacore and clam chowda lunch is a bargain. It isn’t pretty, it isn’t fancy and it smells quite a bit but the kitchen is competent. The south bay is a wasteland for food in general so you have to take your good meals where you can get them.
