Not so good.. As someone born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, I do know what great Mexican food tastes like. We went to Durangos about a week ago and we were extremely disappointed. I don’t remember another time I was more disappointed with the food served, seriously. We tried to convey our displeasure to the 2 waitresses, but they acted like they just didn’t understand what we were saying! We only explained in the remote hope that SOMEONE there actually CARED about the diner’s experience, even if it was not a good one! Hello…? That’s when you REALLY need to LISTEN and MAKE CHANGES to the better, OWNER and Manager of Durangos!! I get the feeling from the restaurant’s responses to reviews on this site, they only notice the (few) good reviews but take NO notice of the complaints!Anyway… to the dinner. Here’s our experience in a nut shell:Salsa: Very Bland, and weirdly hot. Tasted like canned chopped tomatoes with too much cayenne mixed in to fool you into thinking this is salsa… which it wasn’t. We couldn’t eat it (a 1st in my life of 55 years!).Cadillac Margaritas: Tasted too much of sweet and sour mix. Why not make them from scratch? We are paying good money for these. It’s NOT hard to do it right!Fish Tacos: Pathetic. 1 corn tortilla (only 1) per taco, with a mix of overcooked fish and some cabbage. For $13. How hard is it to make a great, fresh Fish Taco? Not hard. But they managed to bungle it.My boyfriend considered all the offerings on the menu and decided on something (we can’t remember what now) which they said they no longer offer! Well, use a Sharpie and take it off the menu then. He ordered the Flautas and found them to be dry and disappointing. The rice and beans were nothing to write home about. There are MUCH better restaurants in the vicinity that offer BETTER FOOD, and at BETTER PRICES: Like Cascada, or Colina Del Oro, to name just 2. Give them a try!! Unless you LIKE mediocre food at exorbitant prices; then Durangos is your best option. Another reviewer suggested Taco Bell over Durangos and that’s not bad advice! But I’d give Cascada or Colina Del Oro a try. You will not be disappointed! The service at both is top notch, their salsas are wonderful, the food delicious and it costs less than Durangos… for fresh and delicious Mexican food.I hope this review helps others avoid the mistake of wasting money and time (OR that Durangos actually listens and makes changes to improve their food, but from the response I’ve seen from them so far, both in person and on Yelp, I doubt this will happen).
